Now here's a game with even higher minimum spec requirements than Crysis.  It won't support XP, or Direct X 9.  But just look at this game, and it's gameplay.  It's effing amazing.  It's a space science fiction nightmare, that's played OUTSIDE of the space station, with unparalleled physics.  Incredible.... you MUST check out the website to see the gameplay footage.

Won't support XP?! I guess it's time to alter into Windows 7 but Shattered Horizon looks interesting.

As incredible as the game looks and feels, I can't help but suspect that Microsoft had something to do with making the game incompatible with XP.

Of course. It's one of their ploys to get those interested in the game to have to get Windows 7 to play it.

You'd think that Microsoft would have learned their lesson with Vista and Direct X 10.

It has more to do with targeting just DX10 being an easier job. It's a fairly niche DD-only game anyway, so they can afford that.

The game is now available for the price of 20 via Steam.

How is it an easier job?  Programmers have more experience coding for DX9.  Not to mention, there are also more people with XP than there are of Vista and Win7 combined.

There's stuff in the game that's not even possible in DX9, for starters.

Actually, looking at the OSs only, it's practically 50-50. Factoring in the graphic cards, 40% of Steam users run DX10 on Vista/Win7, 68% have a DX10 card under XP.

Besides graphical improvements, what can DX10 or DX11 do, that DX9 can not do?  Even the mighty Crysis is playable in DX9.  All computer games have scalable graphics, and Shattered Horizon is a game that should be able to be turned down, so that it's played on DX9.

So maybe 50% of Steam users have DX10 or DX11.  It's still not a good business idea to make the game not available to people that are using XP.  A game that uses DX9, would be available to Vista and Win7 owners as well.  But then again, Microsoft probably paid the developers off to make the game exclusive to Vista and Win7.
