    MegaMan 9 : Cheap shot = High profits ?

    Tuesday, July 8, 2008, 01:55 AM [General]

Well, I don´t know what to think.

Capcom had the chance to make an epic game of MegaMan 9... however, we will get a "new" NES game.

Now, don't get me wrong... I believe Rockman 9 will be a fun game. but I take it as if Capcom got tired of being asked all these years for a MegaMan 9... and they just said: "well OK, you want a MegaMan 9? *fingers snap* OK, here it is."

They had the chance to create a whole new experience. What about classic MegaMan action but with anime footage like the animation used on MegaMan X7, MegaMan X8 or Command Mission (from GIZA Studio).

MegaMan is for me, a very deep character that CANNOT be longer portrayed as an 8-bit character.

So far, what I've read about the development team is that they're proud of creating a new 8-bit game. Grapics, sound... everything... but c'mon... the game will feature add-ons that couldn´t fit on a REAL 8-bit game... Ok, so it won´t be a real new NES game, it will be only a look-alike NES game. Of course it must include online features etc etc. Heck, even amateurs can now-a days create an 8-bit game.

I feel frustrated because I was expecting something different. Will not even hit the shelves. No special edition for instance...

I love the character, I love the series, I grew up with MegaMan, but this is not what I was waiting for since 1997.

Will I buy it? Of course. I support the franchise. But after Battle Network and Star Force series I was expecting something bigger for the franchise, a real cinematic experience. I'll have to wait maybe for another decade then.

    Fight MegaMan! For everlasting peace!

Dang guys, it have been 20 YEARS...

I still remember when at my 6th birthday I was expecting for my NES a game of Mickey Mouse (I can´t remember the name) but I got instead a game of what appears to be an old-looking-future-cop with twisted legs. I didn´t try the game until one or two days later... after that, I got hooked... I even remember that I started with GutsMan and I landed on the first Met trying to kill it Mario style... lol.

Now, 20 years after, I realized that I've spent more time with our Blue Bomber than with some of my relatives. Thing is, that Mega Man bring back to me some of my happiest memories of my life (comin' back home after school, do homework while watching cable TV... the Disney hour, then Saved by The Bell and The Wonder Years after... and end up blasting some robots with Rocky Light).

Although I´m 26 years old now, I do know why I´ve sticked with the Blue guy... and it's because thru this 20 years I can feel at some level that there are still feelings of goodwill and even innocence on the different of Mega Man's incarnations. On our stressful daily life (work, family, people...) Mega Man have always been fresh air to me. And I know that all the old-school players like me ALWAYS tie Mega Man with some of the best memories of their childhood (school, friends, learning growin' up).

I´m proud to express that I´ve been with Mega Man all this time because it's more than a game franchise to me... Mega Man is a compound of memories and moments of, as I stated before, some of my happiest days, where there was nothing to be worried about.

Well, that was my tribute to our Blue Guy.
    Happy 20th Rock.
