Dungeons and Dragons Class Rollout – Thief

Jun 05, 2013 // GregaMan

It’s the Thief. A quick look at my handy-dandy, in-game Character Visualizer (one of the new features ) reveals that the Thief is my most-played character class in the collection. Maybe that’s because she’s an irresistible blend of speed, utility, and blowing stuff up.

Her primary skin (each class has two skins in Shadow over Mystara) , named “Moriah” by default, may be a not-so-subtle reference to a certain bizarre adventure , but the Thief performs a number of unique and incredibly helpful functions for her party.

First, a Thief can open any treasure chest without using a key, thanks to her lockpicking skills. Even more impressive, she can detect when a treasure chest is rigged with a trap, and will even tell you what the trap is, via onscreen text. If you’re on a loot run, this is infinitely useful.

On top of all that, the Thief can actually steal items from many of the enemies in the game, ranging from money and items to rare drops that can be used to craft powerful equipment. All she has to do is ram into the enemy.

The always helpful Arcade Quarter Master has a handy theft guide right here that’s definitely worth your perusal.

The Thief is also one of the most agile classes in the game, with quick, biting sword attacks, a defensive backflip, and the ability to both double-jump and wall-jump. Some of her moves even make sneaky use of explosives to add some serious impact to her assault.

If there’s any downside to the Thief, it’s that, despite her penchant for taking stuff, she has one of the most limited inventories in the game. You’ll find little use for any item but her trusty sling, which allows her to rapidly pelt enemies with rocks from a safe distance. She can also use items like hammers and burning oil, but remember that her basic moveset already incorporates oil, so it may not be worth your shekels to stock up.

Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara is due out this June on PSN (NA: 6/18; EU: 6/19), Xbox LIVE (NA: 6/19; EU: 6/19), Wii U e-Shop (TBC), and PC (NA: 6/18; EU: 6/18) for $14.99. More info on the Wii U version coming soon!
