    I guess I'm back now

Monday, April 20, 2009, 11:43 PM PST [General]

It seems that, even after my initial heartbreak in February, I have returned. The tragedy of my previous departure plays out all too comically.

It all began when I heard about the Fight Club event in San Francisco. SF IV is easily my most anticipated game since I had been anticipating games, so I signed up for this site and sent out my request to attend. I received the acceptance message and I was totally pumped.

A few days pass and tpadz then sends me a text message asking if I was excited for the event, to which I reply in the extreme affirmative for the upcoming event. My phone indicated a swift reply on his part, and I began to read it fully expecting a confession of his jealousy, but in its stead he asks "aren't you there?" and my poor, already broken heart, plummets. I frantically opened up my calendar application on my phone, and it indicated that the event was a week from that night, so I return to this site for the final truth and tpadz was right: I had missed the event. There was only one thing to say to him that could convey my emotion toward my error at that moment:

    "doh!"

It's all I had to say. He sent me a condolence, which was appreciated, and I walked away from capcom-unity.com and the joy it had promised and the opportunity I missed. Le sigh.

Flash forward, and I pick up my Collector's Edition and since my many joysticks and game-pads had arrived, I have been in Street Fighter heaven since; the game has yet to even leave my PS3. Last weekend, I found myself finally attending a Capcom event and I had a great time. The shame of missing the Fight Club subsided enough for me to fully participate here.

I may not have done much when I first arrived here, but it's good to be back nonetheless.

Also, I've finally decided to drop practicing my main character (Cammy) and try to unlock the final two characters on my roster: Gouken and Seth. However, Seth repeatedly shot me down tonight. I need to practice my defense more, or at the very least, stop going 100% all-out aggressive when fighting him.

SF IV National Finals was a complete win

Sunday, April 19, 2009, 02:08 AM PST [General]

It was a great event! I knew the tournament component was going to be cool (and it was), but the addition of swag for food donations was a nice touch. The highlight of the night was getting my copy of the game signed by Yoshinori Ono. I missed the opportunity to get Seth's signature though, which is a bummer. Perhaps at the next event?

I still can't get over everyone throwing their arms up in synchronization with Rufus' Ultra-combo. It was funny, and surprising given how I was under the impression everyone hated Rufus. Although, to be fair, I started doing it too, but only as an act of solidarity with our man, Justin Wong, when he was facing Daigo (who was sporting his nerd attire, apparently).

I have some pictures to post as soon as I get them off of my phone, and I'll talk more about my reaction to some great matches then too. I think I'll also be giving Rufus more of a chance now. It'll give me someone new to go to when people are sick of losing to my Cammy.
