WOW. It was quite an experience to say the least. It was really great to chill with Capcom, and meet so many of the brilliant minds that work on so many of the games we enjoy. I'll give a rundown of the Capcom games I played, and the people I met. First up:
Kramer: Really awesome dude, great man to chill with. Never had much interaction with him on Unity so it was good to talk with him for a bit. Thanks for my awesome TvC shirt!!!
Shawn: It was great to put a face with the name, and to find someone even more enthused about Lost Planet 2 than myself.
Seth: Seriously who doesn't know Seth? Had a great time just chilling and getting my ass kicked in MvC 2 by this gentleman. Really informative and heartwarming, all of us Unity members had a blast chilling with Seth. Also, he may want to consider wearing some darker shades next time to guard against the onslaught of camera flashes.
Sven: Rest assured, this man means business. I managed to get in a quick 5 min convo before he got whisked off to one of a million interviews, but he is clearly is a very brilliant man. There is no doubt his approach to digital and his overall business strategies are directly responsible for a lot of Capcom's recent success.
Now, onto the game reviews:
MvC 2: Rey and his team have a done a great job with Capcom's digital headliner. They could have said "to hell with it" and just straight ported it to the 360/PS3, but they didn't. Capcom went back to the original assets and spiffed it up for the HD release. The backgrounds look AMAZING! Well beyond anything the original disc titles (or hacked download versions) can display. The framerate of the background animations is also WAY above the original as well. Huge difference.
But for me, the best thing about this game is the sprite filter. Rey's group has trully developed the ultimate way to modernize any retro game, and I can't wait to see how it might be used in future projects. They look really sharp. Here, some pics and videos so you can judge yourself:
Also note MvC2 works perfectly with the SF4 arcade sticks, AND has custom controls. Looking forward to this one!
