Well I'm gonna try to wrap up the long overdue E3 coverage. Sorry for the delay but I got sick, and then the police academy started kicking my ass.
TvC:
Wow, I love it. Videos:
As you can see, it plays better than most Wii games. I am shocked at how perfect the graphics and framerate hold up. A really awesome fighter, and its great to see some old Capcom characters from "sleeping" franchises appear. If you don't own a Wii, this might be the perfect reason to get one! Also, you'll want to invest in some Wii fight sticks. Just a suggestion.
LP2:
Get it. The updated Framwork engine is lifelike. Smooth as silk. I am looking forward to this one. Go to IGN and check out some of the videos they have there.
Lastly, a few pics from E3:
Seth schooling Unity members in MvC2. Seth had a great plan. He played the "Oh, I'm not that great, don't play much, plz dont hert lil ol me" card to lure poor saps like me into a battle. I don't think I ever got more than two punches in. Nor did anyone else.
Other angle
This one I just had to put up. Seth and Kramer marching to the soon-to-be cancelled 1UP podcast. I mean marching in a literal sense. Notice they are in perfect cadence and step with one another. Too much time at the office.
So yea, that wraps up (late) E3 coverage on my part. Thanks Capcom for allowing me the chance to check it out! Enjoyed it!
WOW. It was quite an experience to say the least. It was really great to chill with Capcom, and meet so many of the brilliant minds that work on so many of the games we enjoy. I'll give a rundown of the Capcom games I played, and the people I met. First up:
Kramer: Really awesome dude, great man to chill with. Never had much interaction with him on Unity so it was good to talk with him for a bit. Thanks for my awesome TvC shirt!!!
Shawn: It was great to put a face with the name, and to find someone even more enthused about Lost Planet 2 than myself.
Seth: Seriously who doesn't know Seth? Had a great time just chilling and getting my ass kicked in MvC 2 by this gentleman. Really informative and heartwarming, all of us Unity members had a blast chilling with Seth. Also, he may want to consider wearing some darker shades next time to guard against the onslaught of camera flashes.
Sven: Rest assured, this man means business. I managed to get in a quick 5 min convo before he got whisked off to one of a million interviews, but he is clearly is a very brilliant man. There is no doubt his approach to digital and his overall business strategies are directly responsible for a lot of Capcom's recent success.
Now, onto the game reviews:
MvC 2: Rey and his team have a done a great job with Capcom's digital headliner. They could have said "to hell with it" and just straight ported it to the 360/PS3, but they didn't. Capcom went back to the original assets and spiffed it up for the HD release. The backgrounds look AMAZING! Well beyond anything the original disc titles (or hacked download versions) can display. The framerate of the background animations is also WAY above the original as well. Huge difference.
But for me, the best thing about this game is the sprite filter. Rey's group has trully developed the ultimate way to modernize any retro game, and I can't wait to see how it might be used in future projects. They look really sharp. Here, some pics and videos so you can judge yourself:
Also note MvC2 works perfectly with the SF4 arcade sticks, AND has custom controls. Looking forward to this one!
I am working on a huge blog post. Hopefully I can get it done today. We'll see. I'll be reviewing all of Capcom's upcoming games, and yes, there is a LOT to look forward to.
Seriously...wth. I don't have a clue in the world. Here is what we know so far:
-NOT DMC5
-Existing Capcom IP, not a new franchise
-Not a remake
LP2 is in the works, SF4 just came out, MvC2 is in the works...at this point I would have guessed another downloadable Mega Man (Like MM10 or MMX9), but Seth claimed we wouldn't see another MM for a while.
So what does that leave us with? Maybe another G&G game? What else is there?
1.Mega Man X2 is the rarest X series game. Oh sure, you scream “NO YOU PEON, X3 IS THE RAREST” and you are semi-right. The SNES X3 cart is the rarest of the games, but it was also released on the PS1/SS making the actual game more common.
2.Mega Man 5 is the rarest of the classic titles. Capcom had lost faith in the franchise at the time so limited numbers were produced. Mega Man 6 was published by Nintendo who made sure the title had sufficient production numbers. This was from an old magazine, can’t recall which (I think EGM around 97), but it can be confirmed by a few quick searches on Ebay.
3. Mega Man X3 was almost cancelled because Capcom felt it was too much of a copy of X2 (source: Nintendo Power’s AOL site).
4. Mega Man X4 almost became Mega Man X3 had the original SNES game been cancelled. This makes sense taking into account Mega Man X4 was revealed to be in production only a few months after X3’s release (Nintendo Power’s AOL site).
5. Mega Man X4 was the most costly X out of the first six. There is a good chance X7/X8 beat it, but I can’t confirm that.
6. Mega Man 8 was the most expensive classic series title to date.
7. Mega Man 9 was originally going to be released in the late 90’s following Mega Man 8. The concept was quickly abandoned, and focus was redirected into Mega Man X and Mega Man “Neo”, when 8 brought in less than expected sales numbers. It is interesting to speculate what MM9 would have been like if Capcom continued in the direction suggested by MM8.
8. Mega Man Legends was originally titled Mega Man Neo, and then Mega Man Nova before finally settling on Legends. This can actually be confirmed via IGN’s website.
9. Mega Man 7 was placed under the same scrutiny as Mega Man X3. While cancellation was considered, it ultimately was released in very limited numbers. Most of the carts went to Blockbuster, and stores were limited to one copy. Few retailers got their hands on this game. This really shouldn’t surprise anyone who was a fan back then. In fact, I can’t remember seeing Mega Man 7 at any retail store period. Can any of ya’ll?
