Game Club: Mega Man Assignment #1

Oct 09, 2009 // jgonzo

You all voted and the winner of our first Video Game Club entry is the original Mega Man!

Here’s how this is going to work: if you would like to join us in this edition of Game Club, be sure to obtain Mega Man.

This can be done by getting your hands on:

Mega Man Anniversary for PS2, GameCube, or Xbox. Also, try to play on normal difficulty, unless it becomes too difficult.

Update: From Jaxel : “FYI to anyone reading this, the Xbox version will run on your 360 (with the exception of MM8). If it doesn’t, then you need to update the software =P”

Mega Man on the Wii’s Virtual Console

Mega Man: Powered Up for the PSP, to serve as a sort of contrast, as long as you play in “old style” mode.

The original NES Mega Man, if you have the resources.

Each Friday I will give out an assignment (this week’s can be found after the break) and everyone can play up to that point. On the following Monday, I’ll kick off discussions in the forum . I’ll focus on asking a new question (based on design, art, gameplay, etc) per day to spark discussion. You can PM me if you have a really good question that you want to ask the club, and I can post it the following day for group discussion. Of course, new topics and questions may arise on their own, and that’s fine too, but the official daily questions will act as a sort of conversation anchor.

More details after the break!

In sum:

Friday: Weekly Assignment

Monday: Official Question 1 for discussion

Tuesday: Question 2

Wednesday: Question 3

Thursday: Question 4

Friday: Question 5 + New Assignment

Make sense?

Let’s kick this off with assignment #1 (which you should try to complete for Monday’s first discussion, though it’s not required to complete).

Assignment #1 is to get through two robot masters. The order is up to you. Try to keep track of how many times you die and what things you hate or enjoy about the levels that you play through. On Monday we’ll reconvene, but in the meantime, you can use this thread to talk to other game club members about Mega Man 1. Remember that all forum rules are in place (no discussion of illegal items, profanity, etc).

Good luck, and for those that have never played Mega Man 1 before, be prepared for some difficulty 🙂
