Our countdown is almost over, and today brings us to #2 of our top 30 submissions for the Mega Man Tribute Contest. This one just happens to be my personal favorite of the bunch. I'll let Capcom Unity member Nicholas describe his amazing project, the LED Mega Man. I really want the set! Congrats! And don't forget to send me a PM to collect your MM9 code!
Years ago as a child I would become locked in front of the television, hypnotized by the vibrant world that the blue bomber battled through. Since the release of Mega Man 9 one year ago, I have found myself enthralled once more as if no time had passed since last I saw Mega Man glowing brilliantly on screen.
It is with these thoughts in mind that I created this tribute project for Mega Man 9’s first anniversary.
More images and info after the break!
The figure stands 1.25 inches tall. I wanted to keep him small, making him appear as if he had just stepped out of his two dimensional world into our own, but this idea is meaningless if Mega Man didn’t bring with him that vibrant digital glow. His form was cut from a clear CD Jewel case keeping every pixel in mind. Additional parts were cut and glued to the base figure to add depth. A second silhouette was cut and sanded to help diffuse the light supplied by two white SMD LEDs from beneath his plastic stand.
Construction paper was cut to shape and used to color the transparent figure by sliding it in-between the sanded and clear silhouettes. To me, being able to change Mega Man’s colors was pretty mandatory since it has always been such a major feature in all the games.
In this world of HD graphics and 3d game play, I still find myself going back to the classic era of 8-bit gaming, when things were simple, colorful, and genuinely fun. It is good to see Mega Man glowing as brightly on screen today as he does in childhood memories of yesterday.
See the different colors lit up above. Now in Blueberry, Strawberry, Lime, and Charcoal!

WOOOOOW!! That is AWESOME!! I want a set, too! =D
