New Modes announcement!!
(original posting date: November 6, 2009)
Hello everyone!
Today, there are all sorts of new stuff at the official site! So without further ado, let's take a look at it!
First off!
Introducing brand new game modes in Super Street Fighter IV! Before doing anything else, I recommend you check out the NEW MODE Trailer! After watching it, read the explanations on the System page, and I think you'll understand everything.
There are three new online modes!
Endless Battle
A mode where you can create a room for up to eight players, and as the name suggests, play endlessly. The rules are simple, the winner stays, and the loser goes to the back of the line to wait for a new chance to challenge the current champion. When not participating in the current match, you can spectate and cheer on using voice chat!
Team Battle
Finally, Team Battle is added! Four to eight players can join the room. When everyone is ready, the players are automatically split up into two teams, based on their Player Points. In other words, even if the individual players' points are uneven, the combined level of the whole teams will be as even as possible.
Moreover, this mode is not just for 2 on 2, 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 matches. This might be an extreme example, but if you're eight people in the room, you can even do 1 on 7! Seems like there are a lot of ways to have fun in this mode, don't you think?
Of course, you can watch the other people play in this mode too!
Replay Channel
This is the mode that Taguchi and his engineers have been working on harder than anything else!
You've all been requesting "We want to watch match replays!", and here is our response - a new ground-breaking feature following the Arcade Request, a mode where you can watch match replays with (almost) no limits!
As you're fighting, round up a collection of replays. Afterwards, watch them with one hand in your bag of potato chips, just as if you're watching TV.
In this mode, there are several different channels, so if you feel like "I just want to see matches with boss characters!" or "I just want to see matches with the new characters!" you can narrow down your search to whatever you want to watch. In addition, you can save your favourite replays to your "My list" channel and just watch those.
The "My list" is just for you... but the replays in all other channels will be shared with all the players across the world, so please enjoy watching them together while voice chatting!
This is all I've got on the new online modes.
It'll be awesome! So awesome! And a huge pain to debug!
And the next thing I want to introduce: finally... Finally the Bonus Stages are back!!
Regrettably, there's no brick wall this time, but the car smashing and barrel breaking stages are both here. After clearing a bonus stage in Arcade Mode, it will appear under a new "Bonus Stage" section of the Challenge Mode menu, and you can play it to your heart's content. (After clearing it, you also get the option to disable bonus stages in Arcade Mode)
After all this time, there's not too much new I can tell you about what these stages are about! They're stages where you get to destroy a car or rolling barrels. (That's pretty much it) The barrel stage is especially difficult. Until you get used to the timing, breaking those barrels without getting hit by them is pretty hard! Take a break from all the fighting and enjoy these new stages!
Get knocked down by a barrel, and... uh-oh, they'll keep falling and you'll be in trouble. Still, even when knocked down Cammy's looking sexy...
This guy will attack even cars this way, throwing caution to the wind. It's a bit scary.
So that concludes this introduction of new modes for SSF4... Wait! I almost forgot about something really important.
After the game goes on sale, we will be releasing Tournament Mode as DLC!!
... But don't fret, this is not the same as Championship Mode for SF4!
Tournament Mode has six main points, namely the following:
- Recruit up to 8 players and hold your own tournaments!
- Spectate the other players' matches!
- Voice chat! (with 9 people, including the tournament organizer)
- Save replays, even from matches where you were only a spectator!
- Visual tournament brackets and results!
- Award tournament winners with unique titles!
To summarize, the biggest difference from Championship Mode is that you now can host your own tournaments!
With a Tournament Mode like this, I hope you will download it as soon as it comes out!
Phew... Now I'm done talking about the new modes!
But that's not all!
Today, the Character page at the official site has been updated with the "Sample Voice" feature! By the way, the voice samples for the 25 returning characters are all voice clips that are newly recorded for SSF4, so please check them out! We will keep adding all the characters to the site, so don't forget to check back regularly!
Wow, there was a lot of stuff to talk about today, huh!
Next week, I'll be presenting detailed information about the qualifiers for the Street Fighter 4 National Tournament. Iyo will be back, but give him a run for his money, everyone!!
[Iyo is a famous SF player, and winner of last year's national SF4 tournament - Jig's note]
Speaking of which, starting tomorrow I'll be going on a tournament qualifier tour! This time, I'll be going to Fukuoka, Sapporo and Sendai.
... I'll eat myself to death!!
OK everyone, see you next week!!!

Hey Jigsaw, thank you so much for all your hard work!
