Mega Man returns on the Virtual Console today! (Finally)

    Monday, August 18, 2008, 12:56 PM [General]

In preparation for the release of Mega Man 9 in September, we're going to offer you the opportunity to play the game that started it all.  The orginal Mega Man game returns on the Virtual Console today, finally.  Yes, that's right.  Brush up on your old school skills and prepare for some cool contests we have in store.  We also plan to re-release Mega Man 2 sometime in the near future as well.

I have a special treat for you.  Hironobu Takeshita, the producer of Mega Man 9, prepared a blog for all you Mega Man fans.  Also, if you have any questions regarding the original Mega Man game, I'll forward them on to the team and try to get them to answer a few in a couple weeks.

So without further ado, heeeeeerrre's Takeshita-san!

    Greetings everyone!

Hironobu Takeshita here, producer of Mega Man 9. I'd like to take advantage of this blog format to reveal bits and pieces of Mega Man 9 information directly to fans.

I don't need to tell you, but it's been more than a decade since we've created a new installment in the original Mega Man series, and - believe me - we've put 10 years worth of pent up creative energy into it! Keiji Inafune, the "father" of Mega Man, is very deeply involved in this project.  Better yet, we've created the entire game to resemble an NES game in both the graphics and sound department!

All of the fans who played the crap out of the original games back in the day will be treated to an experience that feels very new to them, while still remaining familiar.  Anyway, we promise to please (and frustrate) fans of Mega Man with this new installment, and the entire staff is putting their all into it! It won't be long before you can enjoy this newest adventure in your own home!

We have some great news for you today, as the original Mega Man is now available on the Virtual Console!

This is the game that started it all.  Use it as a way to stretch your legs before the marathon that is bound to be Mega Man 9. Be sure to give it a shot and relive some of your old memories!

    See you next time!

::raises hand:: Oooh! I have a question!!

I was wondering, since MM9 is obviously going to be a huge success, if future NES-Style MM games are in-fact made, Do you think there will ever be fan-contests held for things such as robot masters or even music (I am determined to get my music in a MM game)? I think it was a fun idea when it was done on the NES for certain MM games, as well as for the Battle Network Series, and would love to see that contest return.

Bought a copy today at noon! I can't wait to see Mega Man 2 and 9. I hope the rest of the series can make its way to the Virtual Console as well.
