    Street Fighter EX2 plot guide ver. 1.1
    by Jonny2x4

    ==Disclaimer==
    Street Fighter EX2 and all related characters and products are copyrights 1998 Capcom/Arika. The content of this file is for public domain and not for personal profit.

    ==History==

    Version 1.0 - First public post

    Version 1.1 - Spellchecking and grammatical corrections.

    ==Introduction==
    Originally I was only planning to transcribe the endings from the game, but then I decided to take one step further and transcribe the character profiles as they originally appeared on Arika's now-defunct Street Fighter EX2 website. I noticed there seems a lot of fan-fiction regarding the Street Fighter EX series passing off as canon in fansites,  wikis, and other user contributed pages. I decided to write this file to dispell a lot of misconceptions regarding the plot of the Street Fighter EX series. Did Kairi really killed Akuma? Are Blair and Sharon really sisters?  Does Hayate belong to the same clan as Garuda? Read on find out.

    All the information here comes from OFFICIAL sources. Particularly the endings are from the book All About Capcom Head-to-Head Fighting 1987-2000, while the character profiles are, as mentionted previous, from Arika's page. For some reason, Arika and Capcom were really cheap during the localization process of the EX games released for the arcades and PlayStation. Particularly in Street Fighter EX2, while the Japanese version of the game gives full-fledge epilogue for each characters after finishing the single-player mode, in the English version all the player gets is an anti-climatic "Thank You For Playing" screen, which to be honest, is really lame.

    Street Fighter EX2 Plus, the "upgraded" version of EX2 released for the arcades and PlayStation, actually has a different plot from the original EX2, which will be written sometime in the future.

    ==Endings==

    Ryu - Forging his mind with true strength, Ryu learns that he must overcome himself. Ryu returned to the mountain where he trained with Ken and their sifu and began a new training from a fundamental perspective, sealing the special techniques he learned. Without being boastful, Ryu tightens his body and hopes that he will find the answer to his battle some day. Tomorrow's Ryu might be you.

    Ken - Ken heard a story about his brother-in-law Guile from his beloved wife Eliza that was like none other. "Although his fighting style is different from mine,  that guy sure has a know-how. He's quite a sparring partner. Alright Eliza, its time to take a trip and pay him a visit!" Ken, a man who was raised as a martial artist with no worries. One of these days, we might see this rising dragon fly up to the sky.

    Chun-Li - Chun-Li has captured her father's enemy Bison, the leader of the drug ring Shadaloo, seemingly putting an end to this case. However, just as Bison was about to reveal the whereabouts of her father, Chun-Li let her guard down. "F-father..." While losing consciousness, she saw her father's face... Chun-Li woke up in a hospital bed the next day with a renewed purposed. "I won't have to worry anymore."

    Guile - "Sonic Typhoon!" Bison is struck by the flash of sound-speed. Shadaloo is finished. "Go ahead, kill me!" said Bison. Just when he is about to end a life, a voice yells out for Guile to stop. "Vengeance is not what he would have wanted. Look, this is your daughter. Let's start all over!" The family he abandoned has melted the coldness of this lone army man."

    Zangief - We must never forget the existence of a strong nation named Russia. The legendary pro wrestler swings his strong arm again. Afterwards, Zangief having done a cultural exchange with the purpose of gaining a friend's support and gain further power, returned to the heart of the mountains to restart his training. "The symbol of his country, Cossack dancing, and his everyday fuel, Vodka.

    Dhalsim - With the prize money he earned from his fight, Dhalsim bought the medicine his village needed to cure an untraceable disease. However, his mind was perplexed. Did I commit a neccessary evil? The answer lies in his beloved wife Sally and his son Dhatta. Dhalsim sheds a tear at the language that reaches nirvana from hesistation. "Only you can leave us to everlasting bliss!" Once again, Dhalsim is fortunated as he walks the path of enlightment.

    Blanka - Blanka defeated all of his opponents with crushing force. Although he was a wild boy with unmatched strength, he was also very vulnerable. "Mommy!" "Jimmy!" The bond between mother and son was still strong after several years. The two embraced as if nothing could separate them. Blanka finally found a place for relief after days of fighting. Perhaps he won't have much problem now adapting to the concrete jungles of the city.

    Vega - A certain figure was breathing instictively, glancing at his drink... It was Vega. the purser of the ultimate truth interwinved with blood and rage. He fought new fighters, but they were all a farce as he always emerged victorious. "Filthy losers... You're just preys to me... Your only purposes in life is to admire my art and become food for my claw." Vega's loud shout echoes in the arena.

    Hokuto

    (if the final opponent is Garuda) - A brutal power was sealed within Hokuto when she was a child. However, during her confrontation with Kairi, that seal was broken and her mind was tainted with darkness. After the battle was over, Nanase shed a tear over her sister's transformation, but Hokuto spoke to her. "I was becoming another person who was putting a brutal power to the test. But Nanase... Nanase's voice woke me up." Even though Hokuto mind was warped, the person who defeated Kairi was still none other than Hokuto herself.

    (if the final opponent is Kairi) - Like a flame which shines in the dark, her brother Kairi still lives. However, Hokuto realized that her brother's mind was shut in darkness, since Kairi's memories were gone... The thoughts of an assassin has cruelly repeated a past disaster. Although it was too early, Nanase could not keep waiting for the two of them.

    D. Dark - Dark knew it. The people who trained in the nightmarish facility he grew up in, along with the soldiers who still live in this world. They were the tragic people who survive death by killing others, just like Dark himself. Until he becomes the last man standing, his mind will never rest. Dark considered all men except himself to be an enemy. "The stronger you are, the more pleasure I'll get in defeating you."

    Skullomania

    (if the final opponent is Garuda) - Skullomania finally cornered a true adversary. The decisive final battle has begun. "My arch-enemy Garuda, who seeks world domination! Your time has finally come! Mark this frame, cause now you will be defeated!" "I can't understand you... You do not dress like an ordinary human!" "That's right! An ordinary hero would be embaressed to look like this! But I'm a Superhero!" Thus, the secret battle to save the world has unfolded.

    (if the final opponent is Shadowgeist) - With his deep attachment as a hero, he has finally cornered his arch-enemy Shadowgeist. It was a great battle, as Shadow fought for the people who affected by the government, while Skullo fought with an overflowing sense of justice. At the end, Shadow lied at the ground while Skullo yelled victoriously. "I am Skullomania, the hero who fights for justice."

    C. Jack - The last match began. From the beginning to the end, the two fighters mutually exchange with no luck. When it seemed the gong wouldn't sound a third time, the sound of an explosion was heard in the ring. "It seems you have become strong this time. Like I've promised, your younger sister is free now." "All I wanted was to conclude this fight...that's it." Jack, the man who aims to the top of the strongest. What places will his fists be at tomorrow...?

    Hayate - The demon sealed in the ancient eight forked sword was ressurected. The village's shrine maiden tried to confront him, but she was not sufficiently powerful enough to vanquish him. But then a lone swordsman appeared. "Tsumujikagerou Kyoku" In no more than a minute, Hayate's sword was repelling the evil spirit's illussionary attacks. In the end, the demon was cut in half and slain with a single slice. The village was saved and afterwards, Hayate and the rescued shrine maiden began ruling the village of Kukunoichi together, becoming the guardian gods protecting the peace of the village.

    Sharon - Struggling to break her religious vow as a nun , as well as disregarding her duty as an intelligence agent, Sharon had nothing in her mind but to pursue the only other person who has the rose tattoo. However, the mastermind was already at another place, one step ahead of her. "This tattoo is the proof of the ability of this tradition. Like I expected, that person fights the same way I do..." One month after she was released from house arrest. "It is not easy break the brainwashing. However, I can do it! Until the day my mother will return!"

    Kairi

    (if the final opponent is Garuda) - After his battle with Hokuto was over, Kairi was liberated from a deep fog by the power of Nanase, his true younger sister. The truth is that  those who fight against themselves are those buried by their own instinct... When he was young, he made a mistake that ended the life of Hokuto's father. But now he saw someone who needed protection and Kairi's life was changed. Needless to say, the sorrowful man began shedding his tears.

    (if the final opponent is Kairi) - *Same text as Garuda's ending, different picture.

    Shadowgeist

    (if the final opponent is Garuda) - Just as he cornered the wirepuller, his cyborg body started to overload. The wire-puller was able to push the self-destruct button, causing the HQ facility to collapse with Shadow still in it. After the silence, the wire-puller stood up from under the rubble. However, Shadow managed to cut free and shot one final shot that caught the wire-puller. "Your perverted paradise is over." Barely escaping death, Shadow managed to survived, but he lost his power in exchange for his life.

    (if the final opponent is Shadowgeist) - *Same text as Garuda's ending, different picture.

    Garuda - There were not enough words that could be said about the opponent he was fighting. Was it a new form of himself he was unawared that was revealing himself? A dark side of himself which materialized from within? Or was it a new technique which he didn't know until now? Whichever it is, his fighting spirit and sense felt different during the battle. "Was that really my true self?" The answer to this question will remain an eternal mystery.

    Nanase

    (If the final opponent is Garuda) - Nanase was raised to be the successor of the Mizugami clan. However, her mind was motivated when she learned the existence of her elder brother Kairi from her grandfather, spurring her to set off on a journey to discover the truth. However, Nanase was uncertain whether her journey was motivated by her feelings to adore her elder brother or to become the successor to the Mizugami clan. "Brother... Sister... Wait for me..."

    (if the final opponent is Kairi) - "Brother! Sister! Stop this battle!" Nanase echoed a sorrowful shout. At that moment, Kairi woke up. With the presence of his younger sister Nanase, Kairi's lost memories immediately returned from the floating darkness, liberating him from a deep fog. With her sister in her mind, Nanase was able to rescue her true brother Kairi from the darkness.

    Lost in Translation 3 - Street Fighter EX endings (arcade version)

    Friday, December 5, 2008, 02:34 PM [Street Fighter]

    In 1996, as 3D fighting games such as Virtua Fighter and Tekken were beginning to be popularized, Capcom decided to produce a 3D version of their landmark Street Fighter franchise. While the company was aeady producing a 3D fighting game in-house (Star Gladiator), for the first 3D Street Fighter game they decided to externally contract Arika, a company founded by Street Fighter II co-planner Akira Nishitani, to develop it.  The result was Street Fighter EX, a spinoff  to the main Street Fighter series that pitted established Street Fighter II characters against new Arika-made characters, that to this day still attract a few supporters and naysayers.

    The Japanese of the Street Fighter EX arcade and PlayStation games featured endings for all the characters, which for some reason or another, were not translated. Instead, the English versions simply shows the player's character doing their victory pose, followed by the credits. I've taken the time translate all the endings of the original Street Fighter EX, as well as its upgrades Street Fighter EX Plus and Street Fighter EX Plus α. This update will only cover the original Street Fighter EX, which contains ten playable characters and five hidden ones. The others will come a bit later.

    These endings were taken from the Japanese Capcom fighting game encyclopedia All About Capcom Head-to-Head Fighting Game 1987-2000, authored by Studio Bent Stuff. For conveniences' sake, I've taken the liberty of using the localized names for characters in my translations. So whenever I use the name M. Bison, I'll be using it to refer to the commander of Shadaloo and not the American boxer. Feel free to point any mistakes I've made in my translations.

    Ryu - The eternal challenger, Ryu. Will his battle ever end? Will his challenge last through all eternity?

    What is he searching for? Will he... "I just need to meet a man who is stronger than I am."

    Ken - "See, I knew I was strong! If you truly want to beat me, then you might as well bring a tank with you next time. I better get lost now or Eliza will be mad at me. Ryu, next time we'll meet things will be different"

    Chun-Li - "How are you my father? I am fine myself. Where I am an ordinary citizen or an investigator, I always keep your words in mind. "Help others." Today, I've fulfilled my assignment without harm. And now I wrote you this letter. Wherever you are, you'll always be my father. Your daughter, Chun-Li"

    Guile - "My burden is different from yours. For my friend and for Holger, I cannot rest until I have saved their souls. For I am an avenger!"

    Zangief - "Comrade Zangief! I'm pleased to learned you won your fight as usual! It was splendid, very splendid! Now, for the love of our country, you will show that strength of yours to the rest of the world." - From an admirer

    Hokuto - "The cherry blossoms are scattering" She continued the fight for carnage, not knowing the true meaning of her blood-stained lineage. Will she keep fighting long enough to be reunited with her brother and mutually dye their fists red? Or else?

    D. Dark - "Resistance is futile. You guys won't do it again. I have lost my soul, as well as my tears and my smiles. Now you will bear witness to that hell? Where did they go...? You...?" Doctrine Dark, the man that was once known as Holger. Can his soul still be saved?

    Skullomania - I shall continue the fight as long as evil persists! Whether it'll be on this planet or in outer space. For I am a hero! But being a hero isn't easy! Now that evil has been defeated for today, I must leave! Huh, it seems I cannot go back home yet. For the sake of my beloved wife, my children, and my pet Pochiro-kun. To the Greengrocer! Super Skullocrusher!

    Pullum - She did not know him personally, but she has a relative working for Shadaloo who was nominated to be part of Shadaloo's executives. What will become of that division of Shadaloo when she learns this fact? She is a selfish princess after all. What are you going to do, Bison?  Let someone else take care of that?

    C. Jack - The Power Fighter Cracker Jack vanished from this world for a while after the fight was over. Nobody knew what became of him or where did he went. All that was a certain was that he would return, along with his fists of great strenght. "Nobody can stop my fists!"

    Kairi - "It seems that you did not train thoroughly" The true meaning of a bloodstained lineage.  He follows the path of carnage by himself. What lies at the end? Will he become the master of the fist? Or something else? It won't be long before he begins his destined battle and only then we will know the true answer.

    Allen - The Strongest Karate Master in America has began a trip around the world. Will he be able to prove that he's not a frog in a well? Will this be the beginning of a new legend? Allen Snider. His true battle has just begun.

    Darun - Darun, the strongest wrestler in India has just become the strongest wrestler in the world. He has been approaching by numerous challengers ever since he became champion. Darun will continue the fight, until he gains the privelege to call himself the strongest. "Uoo! Chozetsu Kishin Bomb"

    Blair - Blair, the mistress of a strong gentle heart, was encouraged today by her martial arts practice. "How will I be able to protect everyone if I don't become strong myself? But I can alright myself, as long as I can find a future husband who can defend me. ♥" It seems she will follow the same destiny as Chun-Li.

    Akuma - " At that precise moment, I walked away! For my name is Akuma! Master of the Fist!"

    Lost in Translation: Street Fighter and the "Dash" notation

    Monday, November 24, 2008, 11:06 PM [Street Fighter]

    While most dedicated Street Fighter fans may already know this, in Japan Street Fighter II Champion Edition (or the second Street Fighter II game) is known as Street Fighter II Dash. Of course, if you've played the Japanese version itself or at least have seen the title screen (as depicted above), some of you probably realized that its the same exact title screen as the US version and are probably wondering where does the word "dash" come from?

    See the apostrophe like symbol next to the numeral "II". Well that's actually a prime mark, also known as a "dash" depending on the context. If you have taken a Calculus course (and if you haven't, look it up), you would probably recognize this symbol for its use to denote a derative of a mathematical function. Which is why the designers named the game Street Fighter II Dash, a derative of the original Street Fighter II.

    Unfortunately, the pun got lost when the game was marketed overseas. While the prime mark still appeared on the title screen in the US version, Capcom's US arcade marketing staff was not aware of its significance and thought it was merely a random apostrophe. Instead, they refered to the game by its subtitle Champion Edition and promoted the game as such on ads and the official marquee (as seen above).

    The next game in the series was of course, Street Fighter II′ Turbo or Street Fighter II Dash Turbo, otherwise known by its subtitle Hyper Fighting.

    The title screen in the US version omits the word Turbo and is simply titled Street Fighter II′ - Hyper Fighting, using a title screen similar to Champion Edition, but with the Hyper Fighting subtitle now flashing.

    Oddly enough, the marquee for the US version does feature the word "Turbo", or rather it uses the "Americanized" version of the Champion Edition logo with the word "Turbo" to the left and "Hyper Fighting" to the right. So how is this title supposed to be read? "Turbo Street Fighter II Champion Edition Hyper Fighting"? That's a mouthful. Why they didn't just stick to the in-game title?

    When Street Fighter II Dash Turbo was released for the Super Famicom in Japan, Capcom shortened the title Street Fighter II Turbo, dropping the prime mark from the title. This was also the first time word "Turbo" was actually used in the title screen for the US version and since this was released during the peak of the fighting game boom, its arguably the most popular home version of any Street Fighter game. Probably the reason why western fans still recognized the third Street Fighter II game as Street Fighter II Turbo instead of "Hyper Fighting". The game was not a straight port of Hyper Fighting, but a compilation that included it and Champion Edition as the game's "Turbo" and "Normal" mode respectively.

    Originally Capcom intended to do a straight port Dash/Champion Edition for the Mega Drive/Genesis, but after Sega realized that Capcom was releasing newer Turbo/Hyper Fighting for their competitor's platform, they demanded Capcom to re-do their Genesis port of Champion Edition to bring it up to par with its SNES counterpart. Since the title Street Fighter II Turbo was licensed exclusively to the SNES, the Genesis counterpart had it to be titled differently. In Japan, it was known as Street Fighter II Dash Plus or Street Fighter II′ Plus, inidicating that it was more than a mere port of Dash. Likewise, the western version was titled Special Champion Edition, reflecting the different name the original arcade version was referred by. The "Champ" mode in Special Champion Edition is known as "Dash" in Dash Plus, while the "Hyper" mode is known as "Exciting".

    Later Street Fighter games and compilation also reflect these changes in their regional differences. In Street Fighter Collection 2 for the PlayStation, the games are referred primarily by their subtitles. Oddly enough, Hyper Fighting is referred as "Turbo Hyper Fighting". In Hyper Street Fighter II for the PS2 and Xbox, "Dash" mode was changed to "Champ" mode in the US version, while Turbo mode remained unchanged. Yet the Japanese titles "Dash" and "Dash Turbo" are used in the game's Gallery Mode.

    Of course, there were not the only Street Fighter games that got their titles changed during the localization process. Super Street Fighter II Turbo is known as Super Street Fighter II X (as in the letter "ex", not the roman numeral ten) in Japan, while the Street Fighter Alpha series is known as Street Fighter ZERO. The home version of Street Fighter: The Movie was given the title of Street Fighter: Real Battle on Film, which makes sense since its a entirely different game from the arcade version. I'll probably cover those in greater detail some other time.
