Like Dark Void, but less fun: Gizmodo flies a real "jetpack"

    Monday, August 4, 2008, 02:05 PM [General]

Dark Void is hotness. You have a jetpack and guns, you bash killer robots in their robo-privates, jack flying saucers (!) and generally behave like a cross between William Katt in Greatest American Hero and Jesse Ventura in Predator, which is about the highest praise I can possibly bestow upon a single character not composed entirely of explosions and/or wearing a bikini. The single greatest element of Dark Void -- the "X," as we Marketing Tools call it -- is the jetpack strapped to Will's back: it's glow-y and cool, squirts fire, is upgradeable and is part Harley, part F-18 Hornet, part Rocketeer. And compared to the jetpack that Gizmodo's Mark Wilson got to test out, emininetly portable. This real life Martin Jetpack does not have guns, nor does it come with robot assailants to crotchsmash. In truth, it's not even technically a jetpack, more like the back half of an Osprey with a seatbelt attached. While Mark did get to nervously hover a few feet over a grass field, he certainly did not save the earth from an impending invasion by parallel dimensional alien overlords.

Snuggle up with Umbrella: a fan-made RE comforter

    Monday, August 4, 2008, 12:40 PM [General]

Next time you're laying on the couch on a cold evening, watching some teevee and perhaps wondering what you, personally, could do to either kick-start or thwart the inevitable zombie apocalypse, make sure you're staying toasty beneath a handmade Umbrella comforter. "Punzie" (we're assuming that's not her real name) cranks out some clever game-related hand-sewed objects d'art, including Pac Man pillows and Yoshi comforters. Check out her other goods here.

Dante's Ebony and Ivory in airsoft form

    Monday, August 4, 2008, 12:32 PM [General]

Wonder Festival in Tokyo focuses mainly on "garage kits" (pro/am models and statues of anime, manga, movie and game characters that may or may not be licensed). A sharp-eyed photog spied these totally awesome airsoft replicas of Dante's Ebony and Ivory pistols. Capcom has worked with major airsoft company Tokyo Marui over the years to create several extrememly cool licensed Resident Evil/Biohazard guns; if you've got some serious coin to drop, you can even score some through eBay. Thanks to Kotaku for spotting these pistols on an Italian hobby website!
