Just last week I had dinner with a couple of the guys from GRIN, who are quickly becoming one of my favorite game development studios. They are all mighty Swedish viking nerd warriors, capable of eating their weight in meat and pineapple served on swords while inflicting their horrible, horrible "candy" upon unsuspecting palates.
Much like the boys from GRIN, Fredrik Larsson is also a viking (as you can tell from his name). A rock viking, that is. Click above to watch as Freddy and his trusty axe shred the various stage themes from Mega Man 9. I couldn't help myself; mid-way through the video I threw up the devil horns at my monitor and moshed by desk chair. RAWK!
Over in Japan, Capcom is whipping Mega-fans into a froth of anticipation for Shooting Star Rockman 3 (aka "Mega Man Starforce 3") for the DS. The folks involved on the Starforce team have built an extensive online home for the title, with the sort of detail and information that is, frankly, embarssingly missing from most of our game sites. Chances are you're not going to be able to make heads nor tails from their wacky Kanji antics -- since you are most likely a lazy American good-for-nothing like myself and have not bothered to learn another language 'cause all foreigners should learns themselfs propa Englush -- but you do speak the international language of Cool Visuals. There are plenty of sights to be seen on their secret satellite, but make sure not to miss the amazing and frequently updated desktop wallpapers from the game.
Watching speedrun record-holder SirVG blow through Mega Man 9 in under 30 minutes is both a shock to the system and a kick to the jimmy. As a normal human with reflexes somewhere between the speed of "off" and "backwards," seeing him tear up one of the hardest games I've ever played in my life makes me think that perhaps I should go back to playing Candyland. SirVG provides helpful comments throughout the video (and the speed runner community chimes in with their hints in the comments), so those of you out there looking for tips on MM9 should do yourselves a favor and watch this!
Thank God for Google News alerts! You have no idea how much clever stuff Seth and I find for Unity posting purposes that comes from sites we've never travelled to before. Take fer instance this article over on Gamespite, a gaming blog that appears to go all the back to 2005 (they had blogs in 2005?) that I don't believe I've ever read before. Verbal Spewer eirikr shares with us his experiences from wearing his brand-new Mega Man 9 shirt out and about town.
The opening paragraph sets the tone for this unique piece:
Over the weekend I got equipped with my newly-acquired Mega Man 9
shirt and whilst prowling around in suburbia I was absolutely stunned
by the reactions it received. Sure, its intentionally gaudy style got
plenty of abhorrent looks from moms and grandmothers but amongst
twenty-something males it elicited an almost humble respect of sorts,
like you'd get at a Catholic mass.
Wait, did Penny Arcade just post a 100% bile/sarcasm-free comic? What could have prompted the two most cantankerous g33k5 on teh intarwebz to create something... sweet? Only the power of Mega Man 9 could soothe these savage webcomedians. Normally, I would just gank the whole comic and post here, but instead I will direct you to their dank den of humor so that you can see it for yerself. Awww...
