Resident Evil The Darkside Chronicles out today!

Tuesday, November 17, 2009, 12:12 PM [Resident Evil]

Goods news, zombie hunters! Resident Evil The Darkside Chronicles is available for the Wii today. After a long wait, the co-op, online, arcade-shooter zombie massacre is yours for the en-blastenating. IGN liked it, giving it an 8.1 in their review, which you can read here. If you like the review enough to want to pick up the game -- and who wouldn't -- you might want to consider ordering from the Capcom eStore and getting a groovy RPD shirt with your game.

Havok gets physics-cal with Resident Evil The Darkside Chronicles

Monday, November 16, 2009, 08:32 PM [Resident Evil]

In Resident Evil The Darkside Chronicles (arriving in stores starting tomorrow, yay!), when you pop off rounds at a sign or a box or a brains-starved chunk of tofu, bits 'n pieces blow off in convincing, non-repetitive ways. When you shoot a sign, it swings. Blast a glass window and it shatters. Not only does all this interactivity make the world feel much more solid and real, but it's also thanks to Havok Physics, the same technology that went into Dead Rising, Lost Planet and Resident Evil 5.

Straight from Havok: "Used by more Nintendo Wii developers than any other physics middleware solution, Havok Physics delivers the broadest range of production-tested collision detection and physics simulation features and tools to Wii developers looking to extend their existing game franchises."

Thanks to Destructoid for 'shopping the image so that I didn't have to!

    Get co-operative with Co-Optimus RE5 Night on Nov. 20th

Monday, November 16, 2009, 08:15 PM [Resident Evil]

Hey, PC kidz! We don't give you much love here on Capcom Unity, which I blame squarely on the fact that we have tons of 360s and PS3s within easy reach but very few dialed-out PC gaming rigs. That, and the fact that we're totally lazy and don't like to bother updating drivers. But the crew at Co-Optimus have your best Windows-based interests at heart, never fear! They're organizing a Resident Evil 5 co-op evening, which is muy excellente for two reasons: 1.) the game is frickin' sweet and B) they are giving away prizes to a lucky PC gamer (above). Read all about it here.

RE5 Alternative Edition content coming to N. America and Europe

Monday, November 9, 2009, 01:41 PM [Resident Evil]

A couple of weeks ago, we told you about new Resident Evil 5 content coming as a new Japanese version of the game called RE5 Alternative Edition. We asked you guys to tell us how you wanted to get your mitts on the content and gave you the option to vote for either digital download or a new boxed product. We let the poll run for a couple weeks and then snagged a bunch of your comments from the original blog posting as well as from threads in the forums and presented it all to the RE5 team in Osaka.  As of this morning, we had close to 1500 people vote for DLC and close to 900 vote for a new physical product. In addition, we had over 300 comments on the blog posting, which is amazing to all of us here at Capcom.

And here’s an example of Capcom Unity in action: based on your feedback, in North American, European and Australia territories, Capcom will be making the new RE5 content for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 available as downloadable content. You will not be asked to purchase a new copy of the game just to get at the new stuff, just make sure to hold on to your RE5 disc and you’ll be ready to roll in Spring 2010 when we make available new Resident Evil adventures (and some other things we haven’t told you about yet) for you. Keep that in mind when thinking about selling RE5 back or handing it off to a friend ;)

I'll be honest: we had a strong feeling going in that most folks were going to be ticking the box for digital delivery. Seeing as how we were asking you ONLINE to tell us if you would like to nab new game content via the internet, we thought we may have been skewing the results a bit. What surprised us, however, was just how many of you ended up voting for a new physical package. We’re still trying to wrap our heads around this strongly stated position from a vocal range of the community, but we've definitely heard you guys loud and clear as well.

Thanks to all of you as part of Team Unity in helping us reach this decision!

Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition: How do YOU want the new content? Tell us!

Monday, October 5, 2009, 01:51 PM [Resident Evil]

During Tokyo Game Show, Resident Evil 5 producer Takeuchi-san made a surprise announcement regarding a new Japanese product, called Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition. Alternative Edition will come with new content (I'm sure that you've already seen the trailer released during the show) and will support Sony's magic wand-y PS3 Motion Controller. Never fear, Xboxers, as Takeuchi-san told us in a meeting that the team is "evaluating what they can do for 360 players as well."

Notice that I defined Alternative Edition as a "Japanese product." Here in North America, and over there in Europe, Capcom is wrapping its collective head around the notion of how the new content will be delivered to RE faithful. We're of two minds at the moment about delivery.  Since you will ultimately be the people buying and playing this new content, we've decided that you should be the ones telling us how to make it available.

Here's where we're at: in Japan, Alternative Edition will be released as a new physical package, with all that entails: new box art, new manual, new shiny disc, another plastic box to add to a tottering stack of console games. This makes absolutely perfect sense for the Japanese gaming market, where the uptake of digital content is a bit behind the western markets. However, based on the success of the RE5 "Versus" downloadable content, as well as digital-only titles like Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Marvel VS Capcom 2, we know that the demand for DLC in the west is huge. More and more, gamers in North America and Europe want content immediately and are less inclined to be tied to boxes and packages.

So, Unity, here's your chance: How do you, the serious Resident Evil fan, want the content from Alternative Edition delivered in North America? Take a moment to log in and vote (sorry, we're asking that you log in first in order to cut down on votespam). We're gonna let the poll run for a few weeks, then present the team with the results and our recommendations. Once we get it all sorted, we'll report back with an official announcement.

We're still monkeying around with our Poll settings, so check back later if the poll has not appeared.
