Do you know this guy? Are you this guy? Unity loves you! Big thanks to Michael Shelling for passing this along to me.
So a unicorn and an Action Pal walk into a bar to play SFIV
I got nothin'. At least nothing as entertaining as watching a dude and a unicorn attempt to discuss the merits of Street Fighter IV. You think these guys just had a unicorn costume laying around or do you think they went out of their way to get one. And if they did just get it for this shoot, did they rent or purchase? What's the move here?
Thanks, LA Street Fighters! SFIV Launch event was spectacular
A little over two years ago, we had our first big meeting in the US about the proposal for what would become Street Fighter IV. I won't lie: there was some initial hesitation in that first meeting. We were even wondering, Do people even want a new Street Fighter? Turns out: you do.

Last night Capcom hosted a crazy big ass party in Los Angeles, for you. I hope you were able to make it down, and if you did make it, I hope you were able to get inside. We were completely overrun by literally thousands of Street Fighters at our location at the Geffen Center at the MOCA in downtown LA. The event was thoroughly mind blowing, featuring tons of cool things to do (hit up Ono-san for an autograph! get a Street Fighter character etched onto your iPhone!), things to see (arty arcade cabinets! breakdancers! DJ Qbert! The Knux!), people to meet (Steven Spielberg! LeVar Burton! Michael Clarke Duncan! that dude out of Chuck and the Japanese guy off Heroes who isn't Hiro) and, of course, some serious goddamned SFIV beatdowns were issued.
We apologize to all those who couldn't make it in; we honestly had no idea that the Street Fighter love would pour out like that. We estimate that almost 4000 people showed up downtown; over the course of the evening, we probably were able to get about 2500 of you in through the doors.
Seth and I ran around like hopped-up chimpanzees all night long, and were able to connect with lots of Unity members at the event. I can't believe how many of you guys I recognized from profile pics and how many more of you recognized me from mine. Tells me that I need to stop using such ridiculous photos. Big ups to cosplayers like Big Mex and Jessica Villareal of Girls Got Game. JapanTime, I know you were there somewhere, sorry I missed you. And special thanks to Zach who brought me a killer Resaurus Ken figure. Thanks, brother!
Seth, Shawn and I are beat, but will post more next week. In the meantime, Big Mex is FIRST! with the event report, just like he was at the first Street Fighter Club. Check out his blog here.
Street Fighter HD launched! Get yer SF on in hi-def, y'all
All bow heads in awe of Street Fighter HD.com, the one-stop shopping resource for high quality (and definition, natch) artwork from the world of Street Fighter. Team SFD have built out a crazy new site that, honestly, will end up being the spot that Capcom marketing weasels steal our art from for the rest of time. Here's the word from #1 Ryu cosplayer and leader of Team SFD:
Team SFD is pleased to announce that their latest website "Street Fighter HD.com" has just launched, complete with OVER ONE THOUSAND Street Fighter images, archiving over 20 years of history and culture! Fans will find High Resolution and Extremely Rare Street Fighter art by Akiman, Bengus, Shinkiro, Ikeno, Edayan, Kinu, Shoei, Udon Crew and more, each at a resolution up to an unprecedented 1500 Pixels in height/width.
"It took us a very long time to create this website; almost as long as it took for us to build Street Fighter Devotion. In the end, we are very pleased with the results. Our continued love for Street Fighter, Capcom and its Fans has led us to build extensive community websites such as these, and we will continue to grow parallel with the series. We hope you enjoy the website." – SFD
While Street Fighter Devotion focuses on Merchandise History, Street Fighter HD focuses on Art History. Both websites are independent from each other, and will continue to support the Street Fighter community in their unique ways.
Hooray! Let the desktop-background-and-AIM-icon frenzy begin!
Game Daily charts Street Fighters then and now
The kids from Game Daily have a neat little feature called Then and Now: Street Fighter Characters. They dig up older screen shots or art of the fighters and compare/contrast to images from SFIV. They've also got a poll going asking whether you like old skool or new school. Head over to check it out!
