Hey, you guys got any old Street Fighter magazine covers?

Friday, January 23, 2009, 01:01 PM [Street Fighter]

If there is one thing that video game companies are total crap at, it's preserving their own history. Case in point: For our big, amazing, super badass Feb. 12 Los Angeles Street Fighter IV launch event (still in the planning stages, so it's a secret!), we want to have  an exhibition of Street Fighter through the years and show off as many old SF magazine covers as we can find. Turns out, however, that our resources are pretty crap. I've got one GamePro SF Alpha cover on my wall (first cover I ever negotiated as a PR padawan!) and every SFIV cover we've put together over the last year, but that's it. So, we turn to you, the community, to help us help ourselves. Once again ;)

Myung gave me an idea during sfc last week, when he randomly showed up with a Street Fighter II poster from a '92 issue of GamePro that he found in his closet. Do you have any old game magazines that have Street Fighter on the cover? There was a period in the early 90s when SF ruled the gaming magazine world, popping up on multiple EGM, Game Fan and GamePro covers. Hook us up with nice, clean hi-res scans of any issues you have and you will be summarily rewarded with Street Fighter schwag by yours truly (I'm lying, I'll have Snow send it to you). The more scans you send us, the better your reward will be. Email me a single cover, I'll send you a SFIV headband. Shoot us ten? Your choice of the recent SOTA Street Fighter action figures. 25 cover scans*? You'll get a VIP pass to the SFIV launch event, so you can hang with me, Seth, Ono-san and a ton of celebs. Now, start digging through those old crates of EGMs!

    * To be honest, I have no idea if there were 25 SF covers in the US, but we'll count European and Asian mag covers, too.

NOT ACTUALLY the Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li international movie poster

Thursday, January 22, 2009, 01:37 PM [Street Fighter]

Here is the international version of the Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li movie poster. Some claw action, a hint of Bison red, mysterious Chinese characters, a more spry version of Gen than we're used to and KK looking... sultry. What more could you ask for?

Well, you could ask for it to be actually real. Turns out that this poster is just wishful thinking. Sigh. Thanks, Mynando and Chun_Li

Giant Bomb comes to Street Fighter Club

Tuesday, January 20, 2009, 12:06 PM [Street Fighter]

The final Street Fighter Club was filled with so many people that I didn't even see the Giant Bomb crew hanging out. If I had, I would have at least said, "Srsly, Brad, WTF beardo?" or something along those lines. Naturally, the Giant Bombers loved sfc, since they are all diehard Street Fighters. Check out their text update, then watch the video above for shouty interviews with s-kill and Friend of Unity™ Jared Rea.

Ryu's anime intro from SFIV on Gamespot

Wednesday, January 14, 2009, 12:56 PM [Street Fighter]

Gamespot hung out for quite some time in our suite at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas last week. Amongst all the great stuff they captured, including all the new Dark Void demo love, was scads of hi-def video footage of SFIV in action. They even managed to grab Ryu's anime intro, embedded above. Keep in mind: every character in SFIV has an animated intro like this and they all look supercool. Head over to Gamespot for even more SFIV video action.

Early positive words on SFIV from Official Xbox and PlayStation Magazines

Tuesday, January 13, 2009, 07:36 PM [Street Fighter]

The February issues of both Official Xbox Magazine and PlayStation The Official Magazine are beginning to make their way to both subscribers' snailmailboxes and newsstands. Why do you care? Well, it's cause you've been a Street Fighter fan for over a year (or two or eight or forever) and you're wondering if all the hype and nonsense that Seth and I have been spinning here is actually the Real Deal or Where's the Beef? Don't just buy into our hogwash, we've got some notes from the pros...

Here's what Official Xbox Magazine has to say about Street Fighter IV:

"Does the impossible: Preserves the past while embracing the future."

"Just about everything else about the game, however, shouldn't just make Capcom proud, it should make every fighting gamer proud."

"Online play is really where SFIV will shine the brightest."

And the review ends with a bright and shiny 9.5 out of 10!

How about all you diehard PS3 kids? PlayStation the Official Magazine sez:

Re: SFIV review mentions on Capcom Unity "Street Fighter IV is easily one of this console generation’s best fighting games.”

“...a proud addition to the Street Fighter legacy that fighting fans will love.”

“SFIV kicks ass and takes names.”

W00t! PTOM bestows an amazing 5 out of 5 for the game!

Go buy both magazines now! And while you're out, preorder SFIV or you'll be sad come Feb. 17 when all the cool kids are getting their tatsumakisenpukyaku on and you're left alone in the cold.
