Capcom Japan Releases Game Made By Nothing But First-Year Employees

Update: This is also available to download on the NA iOS app store store as well!

Now this…this is pretty awesome on Capcom Japan’s part. Most companies haze new employees by not telling them about Donut Fridays, but over at Capcom Japan, new hires were immediatley tasked with creating a game for the iPhone. That game, Planet Work, was just released in the Japanese iOS app store. You can read more about it over at 1up .

Now, who’s idea was this and why was it implemented? Look no further than veteran producer Jun Takeuchi (RE5, Lost Planet). From 1up :

“Game projects as of late have grown into incredibly huge things in scope,” he told Japan’s Famitsu magazine in an interview published this week. “It’s hard to produce one game a year the way that people used to be able to do. That got me thinking that perhaps the best way to get our new employees a taste of the peaks and valleys of game development is to have them produce a game of their own by themselves.”

I’m completely on board with this idea! This is a low-risk, high yield approach that is bound to spark creativity that can be harvested for future major Capcom games! What do you think?
