Next up in my line of historic bio’s and new art showcases is the infamous Cody Travers. Returning in April 14,15’s Final Fight: Double Impact, we see Cody again in his classic non-jailbird getup. This piece was created by Udon artist, Long Vo , and colored by a talented newcomer Juan Martinez Pinilla (an awesome, but ineligible submitter to our Color of Conflict Contest.   His submission here )

CODY

Final Fight Cody Overview
Cody is a common favorite for many players, as he is not weak in any field and has a great unique skill. Being the master of knife sticking, he is only playable character who can not only throw knives but also wield them in close quarter combat.

Final Fight Cody’s Story

Following the news that his girlfriend has been kidnapped, Cody sets out on a journey to rescue Jessica from the Mad Gear gang. Joining Cody’s mission is his friend and sparring partner, Guy, and the town’s mayor, Haggar (Jessica’s father).

Cody Game History
Cody makes his first appearance as a lead character of the beat-em-up Final Fight. After Final Fight, he is mentioned in the SNES sequel, Final Fight 2, where he is shown in the opening flashback to be the one delivering the finishing blow to Belger, the boss in the first game, but does not appear in the actual game, nor in Final Fight 3. His absence was explained that he has married Jessica and is enjoying a peaceful honeymoon away from Metro City.

His next major appearance was in Street Fighter Alpha 3, being the fourth Final Fight character to appear in the Alpha sub-series. In this game, Cody ended his relationship with Jessica and became a convicted felon after getting in too many fights following the events of the original Final Fight. He appears in a blue and white striped prison uniform with handcuffs alongside the hand wraps and tennis shoes he wore in Final Fight. His next major role was in Final Fight Revenge, a fighting game based on Final Fight. In his character’s ending, he gets arrested by police officer Edi E. after being framed by the surviving members of Mad Gear and he is shown in Poison’s ending wearing the same jailbird outfit he wears in Alpha 3.

In 2001, Final Fight One a port of the arcade original Final Fight, came to the Game Boy Advance. Cody is playable in not only his standard blue jeans/T-shirt ensemble, but an unlock allows players to use him in the jailbird Alpha 3 costume. His next major appearance is in Final Fight: Streetwise, which features Cody as the elder brother and mentor of the new main character, Kyle Travers. Prior to the events of the game, Cody was willingly incarcerated for an unspecified crime committed by Guy -causing a fallout between the two former friends. Cody is kidnapped by Father Bella (the younger brother of Belger) and is used as a brainwashed guinea pig for the experimental drug GLO. Cody eventually regains his senses and helps his brother defeat Bella.

In 2010 Cody returns, both in a perfected, online enabled version of the original arcade, Final Fight: Double Impact and as a playable character in Super Street Fighter IV.
