RedVirtue Interview: Music, Art, and Cosplay!

Sep 23, 2008 // Snow

RedVirtue takes the spotlight in our latest Unity Interview. He took the time to chat about what he does to make Unity cool, and what he’s doing when he’s not being eaten by zombies . I talk to him about his varied involvement here on Unity, ranging from Music, Film, Art, and Cosplay! Click the jump for the whole interview!

Snow: So you ready for this interview or what? LOL

RedVirtue:
haha. right now? i’m up for it.

Snow: Yes right now! We’re live right now btw, so none of your usual cut downs to Seth . He has feelings too.

RedVirtue:
Haha. Right right. i’ll try to hold back.

(Picture – Capcom Music – RedVirtue made this himself)

Snow: Holy crap! That is freakin’ awesome! Alright, so my first question we’ll base off of that shirt: How many groups do you play a mojor role in here in Unity?

RedVirtue:
Three.
Capcom-Unity.com/Cosplay
Capcom-Unity.com/FanFilms
Capcom-Unity.com/CapcomMusic

Snow: Those are amoung the most popular fan groups in Unity. Nice work!

RedVirtue:
Oh nice! why thank you, I’m one that really likes to be a “go getter” in whatever i involve myself in. I like these groups because they involve a deeper interaction and involvment from other users. I think it’s a little more enjoyable for everyone that way; gaining a sense of ownership.

Snow:
You’ve definitely proven your deep involvement here on Unity. So what was it that first got you going with Capcom? When did you first become a fan?

RedVirtue:
I’ve always played Capcom games in the early days on the NES with games such as Megaman, and Ducktales. But what captivated me was Street Fighter II. That game was utterly glorious! I can still remember the packed arcade cabinets with the crazy long lines- wondering if I’ll be able to play today! The lines were that long. It’s also obvious that I’m a notorious Final Fight fan too. SO when the two mixed for the first time on SFA, I utterly flipped. I’m also a BIG Resident Evil fan as well. The RE Remake is still my favorite treasure of the series. It brought back fond memories from my first go with the original on the Sega Saturn.

i’m the guy next to the Jill cosplayer. next to me is a fresh face to Unity, Quartez .

and here i am getting mauled by zombies at Anime Expo ’07.

Snow: Wow! An all-around-Capcom-fan then, huh? Seems like you love just about all our games! Fan made shirts, and sweet cosplay! What’s the craziest Capcom Character you’ve dressed as?

RedVirtue: ooohh.. I’m actually studing sculpture and mold making now, so we’ll see a killer “Q” costume from SFIII pretty soon. the mask is going to be pretty impressive.

Snow: You’re studying sculpture just to make a cosplay!?!

RedVirtue:
Yup. That’s one of two reasons. I want to make really elaborate stuff. I’m kind of a multifaceted artist. The other reason is to continue broadening my horizon in the arts. I’m a freelance artist, so the more I take in is the more i can use. I invite any Unity member to a my Art Myspace. Just make sure to let me know you’re from Unity so i don’t ignore you. lol

Snow: That’s so cool! You have created TONS of Capcom Fan art. All of which, I might add, is fantastic! Everything from Music, to Paintings, to shirts, and now Cosplay costumes! I’m jealous of your talents. As you stated, your VERY involved in Unity. What’s the coolest part of Capcom-Unity?

RedVirtue: It’s the community. Without a doubt. You can go online and talk about of stuff with people that love the things you love and actually involve yourself with related contests and actually effect what’s going on with games such as SFIV. I voted for Cammy in Seth’s poll and I was happy when I first heard she made it in at Comic-Con. I also had the privileged to meet cool Community Specialists not once but twice at E3 and Comic-Con (Hi Seth). Since I handed out business cards at Comic-Con for Capcosplay, the group has been a “featured group” since. Which is extremely flattering. Thanks to whoever made that possible!

The card that started it all. lol

Snow:
I remember seeing that card too! Aside from Unity, what are your hobbies?

RedVirtue:
Painting and hitting up Galleries & Museums when i get the chance. Into movies too, but my girlfriend is a total film-buff. So that rub off on me too. We last went to the Hollywood Bowl to listen to John Williams orchestrate his music from popular films such as Indiana Jones, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Snow: What games are you playing lately?

RedVirtue: StarWars: Force Unleashed, Castle Crashers, Street FIghter Anniversary edition, and SFIV at the arcades.

Snow:
SFIV!?! Wait, holy crap! You live near a machine?

RedVirtue: hahaha, i actually live by the City of Walnut and they have SFIV at the arcade across the street from my school.

Snow: One thing I have to mention is your avatar, Cody… I love how you change it frequently, like he’s always wearing Capcom “clothes.” What can we expect to see next?

RedVirtue:
oh man. i’ve been thinking about that alot actually. we might have my avatar wearing some movie themed diggs soon. it’ll be a 80’s movie classic! i’m also thinking about which other Capcom licence i could mesh with Cody, too. I’m taking suggestions!

Snow: Suggestions, eh? Mmm… How about Will from Dark Void?

RedVirtue:
Dark Void! i didn’t even think of that one. i’ll definitely cook something up soon if i come up with something.

Snow: Nice! What’s your online gaming name so we can catch you in some matches?

RedVirtue: RedVirtue on XBLA! i’m always up for a challenge or co-op.

Snow: Alright, we’ll see you there! Thanks for chatting with me man! See you online!

RedVirtue: Anytime! thanks for the opportunity, Snow. Capcom-Unity rules!
