Why You Should NOT Buy Bionic Commando, Dead Rising 2, or Dark Void

Thursday, May 28, 2009, 05:06 PM [Resident Evil]

I'm a huge Capcom fan.  Always have been.  I love Japanese culture, art, and design and those things shine through in almost every game Capcom has made.  Japanese sensibilities are an essential part of the true essence of a Capcom release.  That is why you should not buy the new wave of outsourced, western developed Capcom titles.  Don't encourage this bastardization of Capcom franchises.  It will destroy what has made this company so great all of these years.  Though they are one of the most beloved developers in the US, their grab for more western money means that they are trying to adjust their approach to development to appeal to more North American gamers.  Show them that doing so will alienate their established fan base, ruin everything that is good about the company, and ultimately drive them to bankruptcy.  DON'T BUY THESE TITLES!!!  Bionic Commando, Dark Void, and Dead Rising 2 are all being handed-off to non-Japanese developers... and RESIDENT EVIL IS NEXT!

"As we go forward and do more games along the lines of Bionic Commando, I think you're going to see the company open itself up more to developers outside of Japan. So is it possible that some day a Resident Evil game could be done by western developers? Absolutely. We don't have anything in the works now, but the kind of groundwork that has been laid by Resident Evil and Dead Rising 2 are definitely moving us and the company in a direction where those idea wouldn't be so foreign."  -Chris Kramer speaking to Planet RE

Again, I love Capcom.  That is why this is so important.  This will kill the very spirit of what makes their titles so good.  I want Dead Rising 2 as much as anyone, but I'm ready to hold off on that title as well to show them that THIS IS WRONG.  The LAST thing I ever want to see is a western Resident Evil title.  The very thought makes me sick to my stomach.

The "Resident Evil" of Umbrella Chronicles -or- Why I Hate the Nintendo Wii

Thursday, May 7, 2009, 06:13 PM [Resident Evil]

Ultimately, I bought my Wii for my kids, and they love it.  But I'll admit that the main reason I wanted one myself was Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.  I'd played it once or twice at a friend's house with the Wiimote and Nunchuk and had a lot of fun, so I was really gung-ho about getting the game and a nice blaster and then playing it on my widescreen HDTV.  Once I finally got our Wii, I waited to dig in until I could find a gun peripheral for the Wii, finally locating and ordering the Nyko Blaster.  It showed up and I got all ready to play, locked the Wiimote in and plopped down in front of the TV ready to blast some zombies...

    I was instantly, incredibly disappointed.

What had been a fun game with the Wiimote held downward, following the reticle onscreen, was now a horribly flawed and entirely inaccurate shooter.  Due to the bad design of the Wii sensor bar (it really needs to have 2 inputs on each side of the screen to accurately track- like the Guncon 3), the aiming is way off.  At the center of the screen, the reticle is lined up straight down the sights, but to the left or right, the reticle pitches sideways, making aiming down the sights totally pointless and the gun peripheral worthless.  I haven't really played it again since, as I was so disappointed with the Wii's IR tracking.  Everyone seems to think that the Wii is perfect for lightgun games, but if the tech can't tell where you're pointing, it's really not good for anything.

    What a huge let-down.

Fortunately, RE: Darkside Chronicles looks so amazingly good that I'll just have to grit my teeth and push through it.  The Nyko Blaster will stay in the drawer, though...

    Forever.

I'm hoping that when/if Sony announces their motion controller, Capcom will port this series over to the PS3.  Accurate motion-tracking technology is vital to this game's playability and it sounds as if the LED tracking specs of Sony's controller would allow for such accuracy...  Here's hoping.

Eh, yeah...ideally I could have the best of both worlds and not have to give up the 360 for the PS3. I'm supposed to make a pretty nice chunk of money this summer but that summer job may not get off the ground. Sigh. Yeah, the more I think about it the PS3 would be a pretty great buy, I would play the hell out of some Metal Gear Online....that's the one game I really can't get enough of. :P I just don't wanna get stuck with another Metal Gear Solid exclusive on a system I don't own...first it was MGS4, then MGS Rising possibly, lol.

Still kinda thinking about it though, so we'll see what happens!!
