    Getting ready for SGC

    Friday, June 19, 2009, 04:08 AM [General]

Well, I paid for my entrance and got the room reserved. Now i have to start practicing for the Iron Man of Gaming challenges. They include getting the most points in 5 minutes in Dig Dug and Mega Man on NES, and competing in game tournaments that include Street Fighter IV (sadly on the 360),  Gran Turismo 5: Prologue (a Driving sim....i SUCK at those), Call of Duty 4 (I'm decent at most shooters, and I played this to death on PC when it was released), and NBA Jam T.E. on SNES (probably played it when i was little). Out of all of those, I am only confident in 3 games. The others I actually have no access to unless i ask around to borrow my friends copies. I actually already borrowed GT5:P already, so i just have to get a hold of COD4 and NBA Jam.I also plan to ask another friend if can trade my Fight Stick for his just for that weekend to use at the tournament. I'm sure he'll understand, and in exchange, maybe i can lend him my Ps3 version of SF4 as well, so that he can fight that community. I am also gonna ask for tips from my friends for their repspective games (since they play them so much.) I don't know how good i can get at these games, but I can try to get decent at all of them in less than 2 weeks.

    This should be enteraining...

    Anime Matsuri

Went to that convention only for the friday it was open (didn't have enough for the full 3-day pass) and it was ok. Just finding the Registration was a pain. The arcade section was kinda bleh (mostly puzzle games, which is fine, but I was looking for more fighting games.). The most notable arcade cabinet being the Samurai Showdown 6 cabinet. I didn't know they had that game. Too bad i barely remembered anything at all about which fighting style i preferred (it was a japanese cabinet, so i just had to wing it -.-; good thing it was free play.) I learned on the spot though so I had a good time.

The most notable things in the con were just a few things. The console room should have really been called the Smash bros. Brawl room. It was filled with tons and tons of TV's but just about all of them had Smash bros. playing on em, save for one corner of the room that had SF4, Halo 3, Left 4 Dead and COD: WAW. Later, more SF4's started to pop up, but at the most there were only 3 TV's with em, which was fine by me. I even met up with some dudes that i met at my local Gamestop that i callenged to 3s and beat. 1 of them had his TE stick, and i had to use the horrible 360 pad. I beat him 10 times in a row, and it seemed like he could have cared less. Wierd, seeing as how he was in the big Showdown tournament in the same evening. Played way too cautiously for a Ken player imo. When I saw him play in the Showdown tourny later, it was a little hard to watch.

The one thing that really made my day at the con was really the Screwattack booth in the dealers room. They had SF4 running on a tv at their booth, and a small crowd gathered at the table. One guy was totally destroying anyone that stepped up to face him and his akuma. It seemed like i was the only person that actually gave him a good fight, the way the crowd was acting when i stepped up. I still lost though. I did get the play Chad and Craig later on though. Was fun playing and talking to the guys. I also bought one of their shirts (since i was there pretty much the rest of the time they were open).

Overall, this con was ok. Next time, I'll be a part of the Showdown tournament instead of just being amazed as a spectator.
