    Life The Great: Mega Man

Friday, April 18, 2008, 03:02 PM [Capcom General]

An Atlanta rapper named Life The Great recently released a nerdcore song called Mega Man. The song samples the opening theme from the classic Mega Man games. Actually, "sampling" is an understatement, since the song is based on the opening theme of Mega Man. Though lyrics isn't entirely about Mega Man and Capcom (He mentions the "Konami code", for example) it's still pretty good. Check out the song by playing the second track on the player below, courtesy of sitdownstandup.com (I'd list the song by itself, but I couldn't figure out how to embed just the one song).

    This Is Old School

Friday, April 18, 2008, 02:46 PM [Capcom General]

Each day, I get reminded that I'm getting older by making references to games that younger gamers have never seen/heard/played, many of which, of course, are classic Capcom games. No matter! Those whipper snappers will never understand the joy that I feel when I watch this video of 100 great Super Nintendo games in 10 minutes. I've played almost every game in the video, and seeing it again, some for the first time since the SNES days, has totally made my day. If only they included the sound effects and the music from the games too...

    Capcom Kirbies!

Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 04:17 PM [Capcom General]

I've been meaning to post this, but webcomic VG Cats had a strip one day, probably in celebration of a game that totally should have had Mega Man in it, called "100 Kirbies", dedicated to the "what if" forms that Kirby could take on if he had to chance to suck them down like so many Slurpies. How many incarnations can you recognize above? (Hint: They're all Capcom related) After you're done with that lineup, check out the full strip. Scroll to the bottom of strip if you're wondering which Kirby each is.

    Gamasutra Talks With David Sirlin

Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 02:47 PM [Capcom General]

Gamasutra has posted an interview with David Sirlin, whom you know as, if you've been following our blog (If you haven't, you should!), the man behind the remixing of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. The interview probes Sirlin and the changes and why they were made, and why he thinks it will ultimately help bring in a new generation of Street Fighters without ruining it for the hardcore fans.
David Sirlin: There’s been a lot of reporting that the game was dumbed down or something, but I think people are off base there. The changes that make the moves easier to do, do not really affect high-level tournament play at all. There’s a couple of cases where the move changes really do affect it, and I’ve changed the properties of the moves to compensate, but in most of the cases, it doesn’t really affect the balance.

You Got A Real World In My Video Game

Friday, April 11, 2008, 06:03 PM [Capcom General]

I don't remember how I stumbled upon these, but a Picasa Web Album titled, "Gamer Art" has some nifty art that I haven't seen much. The artist, Mike, obviously has some pretty good Photoshop skills, a healthy obsession for all things gaming, and a lot of free time. While not exactly a winning formula for world domination, it does allow him to take "some random pictures he found and put game sprites in them". The result? Some cool pixels in the real world imagery, such as this Mega Man In The City.
