Example of Lost Planet 2 Matchmaking

Matchmaking would be awesome. Especially if it was ANYTHING like Halo or Call of Duty 4's multiplayer matchmaking. I don't want playlists being there one minute, and gone the next, but maybe a double EXP or something would work. Also, make player matches host decided, like CoD/Halo custom games. That way you aren't FORCED to do matchmaking like in GoW2. Even though they have a custom game lobby, it fails in comparison to CoD's/Halo's. I would like to at least see a party system in Lost Planet so I can play with friends, rather than go in with people I play well with, and have us all seperated off onto seperate teams.

I almost never hosted in the first game. I could sit there for 10 minutes and not get more than a couple people popping in then leaving once nobody else joined. Another problem I had was not even being able to see all of the matches that were up. I'd be in a party and my friends would suggest matches to join and it wouldn't show up for me.

I noticed in the demo that everytime you try to join a room that is full, you have to do another search. Please, fix this.

Also, mark rooms that have private slots correctly.  Currently in demo, they will show games that have less then 4 players, but whenever you try to join, it says all slots are full.  And yet it will appear in search many times in a row.

Those games likely are games with private slots and so they should be marked something like 2 +2 so that you know the public slots are full.

So yeah this is just a possible matchmaking thing I came up with because I'm very bored right now.

I already made one of these on the original LP discussion but this one is better.

Matchmaking is not confirmed in the game but yeah like I said I'm bored.

Advantages of Matchmaking
Play with your friends - You don't need match making for this, just a party system.
Standardized set of rules - This is a disadvantage as you can't change game length or win conditions
Selects host with best connection - Not always the case. Pluse if the game selects who the host is, that person may not want to host and may leave early and make everyone drop form the game.
Fast and easy way to find games - It's easy but not fast. Most matchmaking systems can take ages to find a  gate and while you are just left stareing at a loading screen. When I finally connects to a game it may say "unable to join game" and kick you back to the menu.
Don't have to wait for the host to start the game or play with their bs rules - this kind of setup leads to uneven teams as if a party join and some of their friends didn't make it in, they will quit even though the game start timer has started counting down.

So yeah just let me know what you think of these playlists/matching in general being incorporated into the game.

I like to be able to customize my games and I want to be able to play on the same team as my friends so here is what I suggest Capcom try a mix between the two systems.

People should still be able to host their own games with custom settings but when searching for a game you have to choose your preferred settings (i.e. game mode, time limit, max players, etc.) as you currently have to do in LP but when you search, instead of showing you a list of available rooms, the system finds the game with the best connection and adequate room for your party. This would be the "quick match" option but you should also be able to view the server lists and select a game manually incase the matchmaking system is broken at launch.

To insure the teams are balanced on a skill level, you have five options: "Don't care""match my level (Mercenary)" (game selects closes match, say within 10 level), "All levels (Mercenary)",  "match my level (party)" and "All levels (party)". As in CoD4, mercenary means that you don't want to be matched to people playing in a party.   For people in a party the system would just take the average level of all player in the party and use that to match players.

I know one thing for sure - I wouldn't have loved LP as much as i did if a matchmaking system through me on to Pirates Fortress all the time because that was the only game people wanted to play. Wink

Advantages of Matchmaking
Play with your friends - You don't need match making for this, just a party system. - I'm not talking about just campaing though.  Unless I'm misunderstanding you, and to be on the same team as them.
Standardized set of rules - This is a disadvantage as you can't change game length or win conditions - You shouldn't be able to choose your own rules for RANKED games, that's what player is for.
Selects host with best connection - Not always the case. Pluse if the game selects who the host is, that person may not want to host and may leave early and make everyone drop form the game. - It does a large majority of the time, why would they not want to be host, and if he drops the game selects a new host.
Fast and easy way to find games - It's easy but not fast. Most matchmaking systems can take ages to find a  gate and while you are just left stareing at a loading screen. When I finally connects to a game it may say "unable to join game" and kick you back to the menu.  Have you played Modern Warfare?  I find games within 30 seconds of choosing my gametype.
Don't have to wait for the host to start the game or play with their bs rules - this kind of setup leads to uneven teams as if a party join and some of their friends didn't make it in, they will quit even though the game start timer has started counting down.  People will be paired by their level and hopefully rooms will stay open during a game like cod4 so people can go in and out if needed.

"Host" in Halo & COD is a technical network term regarding which P2P client is determined to have the best centralized relationship between all the other clients. This player is assigned "host" behind the scene, and as their client machine is running the actual game server instance they experience little to no latency. They do not pick a custom game and settings and start a lobby and then wait for players, they search within a playlist like everyone else and subsequently "hosting" is intended to be an automatic and seamless network process.

When Blackjack is referring to "hosting" in LP he is talking about being able to create an individual lobby with custom game settings. Imagine if you could search Custom Games within Halo, and you pretty much have the system from LP, or at least Colonies. You can search within an overall gametype for open lobbies, or you can drill down to adjust specific settings to find games that are being hosted with similar preferences within that gametype.

I appreciate and enjoy the latter system for many reasons, number one being ease of use and options available to the player. You can see connection speed and type, and a lot of other info about the games in the overall lobby view, and that gives you choices. You don't get dumped into some random game with half your team split off into a gametype you didn't even want to play. I also despise manipulating customers into buying DLC by restricing their experience with a game they've already paid for, which is generally what occurs with "playlist" and "EXP" based systems, especially "double exp" events. If you give me a game and let me do what I want with it I'll gladly pay for more content without having my arm twisted Cool

Just thought I'd throw that out there as that seems to be the main point of confusion in this discussion.

LOL If only... But I'm sure I don't need to elaborate for you on the hurdles there, especially the ones pertaining to costs and maintenance.

I always hated having to wait 8 - 12 hours for Maintenance in other games every week lol.
