It's set levels. No free roam from all indications. You might be able to pick where you wanna go, but that's about it.

And yeah currently, the best information is that there is an expected release date sometime this winter, though nothing concluded yet.

Only for Xbox 360 and PS3 currently.  No information on if it will go PC or not, so we might expect no information about a PC release until after it has released on 360 and PS3.

The game isn't even out yet.  DL the demo and find out for yourself.

Lost Planet centers around the shattered economy of a desolate planet and the Snow Pirates that inhabit its frigid surface. It's been heralded as the greatest simulated market trading environment, due to the fact that it consistently busts the biggest blocks that anyone has ever seen. Blocks of ice. Once succesfully blocked by the equipment your ancestors designed, fabricated and maintained; you can sort, package and distribute these critical resources to a network of ice retail outlets, securing the continued prosperity of your ice trading lineage. All of this macro management can be yours, while still allowing the freedom to take on mercenary, plumbing or electrical contracts; or to fold it all in for the day to drive your squadmates (employees) to the local bar for a game of darts before firing all of them in a belligerent tirade of corporate espionage fueled by your poor judgement and eggregious alcohol consumption. They sucked at blocking ice anyways, and they were even worse at selling it, you don't need them... this is... LOST PLANET 2: ICE TRADING BOOGALOO: ON THE RUN Surprised
