    Fight Club Recap

    Thursday, October 22, 2009, 09:34 PM [General]

Overwhelming turnout and Capcom did a nice job servicing their fans. I was part of the first group that went in, and when I left around 9:30 the line was still wrapped around an entire city block.

Shwag was good: Juri T-Shirt, Ryu headband, tvc towel, tvc poster, fight club poster with juri, ryu figurine, and lastly SF comic book.

There was a mix of gamepad and fighting stick stations. One side had tvc and the other side had SFIV. There was only 1 machine behind the DJ that had Super and when I was there it was not playable by the audience. Only Seth and Justin Wong were able to play and introduce the 3 new characters. It was impossible to even see the screen because of the sheer amount of people in this small space (2 narrow floors of a boutique sneaker store).

I believe after I left people were able to play but really impossible to cut through the amount of people. That was probably the most disappointing part of the event. All I could see were the character names at the top of the screen. It would have been better to have all of the consoles running Super.

The highlight was tvc. This was the first time I ever played it and it's really a superb game. It's arguably more impressive and innovative than SF. The animations are great and this is one of the best looking games on the Wii. Of course it would have been better on a next gen console graphically and for online multiplay, but it's reason enough to pick up a Wii just for this game. Keep in mind I'm a SF fanboy and it's crazy to think this game was more impressive. It might have been because I literally could not see anything in regards to Super.

At any rate, awesome event. They did a great job but some things to consider next time:

    1. The venue location was great. Downtown NYC in SoHo is as trendy as you can get outside of hipster-ville Williamsburg. The venue size however was still inadequate. The setting and sheer amount of people made the preview of SSFIV anti-climactic.
    2. They should have had SSFIV on all of the consoles that were not demoing TvC. This would have been the perfect opportunity to get feedback from general players and pros in one night. The feedback would have been tremendous for the dev team. This would have been the ultimate fan-service.
    3. I understand celebrity status, but we all had to wait in line. Not the VIP who were of course all the top east coast players, a la the Justin Wong crew. I have much respect for them, but in an event that's supposed to cater to the entire community, VIP service is pretty annoying. They didn't have to wait in line and they got to play SSFIV.

That's a wrap. Great event all around and can't wait for TvC.

NYC Fight Club: Who's gonna be the first one waiting on line?

    Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 08:43 PM [General]

So I work extremely close to the event location...like 2 blocks away. I'm old and have a full time job and sometimes think I'm too old for this stuff...but it's SSFIV! At any rate, just curious to know when you're all going to start lining up...I'm thinking of heading over 6:30 ish, but hell...maybe that's too early..maybe that's too late?

Yeah, sounds like fun, but not playing Super sounds like a bit of a bummer. I wasn't expecting any news though. At least TVC was playable & they demoed Super.

Hope I can make the next one. I would love to just hang out with some of the guys on unity.

Yeah, that could be it, but there's really no info out. Still a lot of speculating going on around here.
