At my workplace, we always get free subscriptions to different "guy magazines." My favorite was FHM, but they ended the magazine awhile back (and so was Stuff Magazine, which was FHM's competitor).
Recently, we've started to receive MAXIM again. As all of these types of magazines do, it has a page with short (e.g. one sentence) video game reviews. This month they reviewed Killzone 2 (which they call Kill Zone 2), 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, and Street Fighter IV (which they call Streetfighter IV).
Now, I know they are not exactly the #1 source of video game information, but I expect a more in depth look at something (no matter what it is) if you're going to review it. I'm sure you'd like an example... Well, I'll be happy to give you three.
1. "Kill Zone 2" received a 3.5/5 for "impressive lighting effects, and graphics that make this first-person shooter the hottest girl at the ball..."
2.50 Cent received a 4/5 for "18 new music tracks, co-op play, and a story that's Indiana Jones meets Scarface."
And, of course I saved the best review for last...
3. "Streetfighter IV" received a 3/5 for "IV takes the series to 3-D, but pretty as it is, Fighter lost a fistful of its old-school soul with the added dimension."
Okay I'll be honest, I haven't played any of these games, so I can't exactly give a review on them. But let's be even more honest here, I don't think this "reviewer" did either... "Added dimension?" Wait, what?
I hate the fact that there are "guys" out there reading this, and they are going to base what they will spend their money on because of it. I understand actual video journalists have written bad things about game I've liked, and that's to be expected. That's the way the world works, everyone has opinions. But these "reviews" aren't opinons... or even reviews. They're misinformation that others will lead to believe as facts. And, that my friend, is a damn shame.
Joystiq has a story about Capcom's Toshihiro Tokumaru telling the world that the Lost Planet movie will cost between $150 and $200 million. WOWEE!
That is super awesome if you ask me. That's just the budget I was hoping for so all of the proper effects could be used to make Vital Suits and Akrid. Everyone knows the history of video game movies, but this is a lot of money. I'm going to say it now (even though it's obvious coming from me), this movie is going to be huge. Not only will it appeal to me and other fans, but they are using fantastic content that will get people into the theatres. People are going to want to watch this because of the action/adventure/robots/snow/big bugs/fun! I'm sure there will be several people that don't even know it's a movie adaptation of a video game. It's just going to look like a super fun popcorn movie.
I'm tired of looking at my **** standing on a football field everytime I look at my profile, so I'm just here to make a quick blog about nothing. I haven't really had anything profound happen recently, so I haven't "blogged" anything. Although, I can still say, if you haven't tried Lost Planet multiplayer, you really should. Everyday I see new players online that picked it up for $5-$10. That's cheaper than renting it!
As for the future, I'm really looking forward to Dark Void, Bionic Commando (multiplayer), and Street Fighter IV. That may sound like a biased comment (especially here on Capcom-Unity), but it's true. And, I'm not even including the obvious Resident Evil 5...
Capcom is going to rule 2009. I have no doubt about that. The latest Game Informer listed Capcom as the #10 best publisher of 2008. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that they are in the top ten... but with all the work they have done on the Xbox Live Arcade and PSN side, I really think the should be higher on the list. The digital download sector of games is really taking off and will soon be a new area for developers/publishers to fight for supremacy in. It may seem like a small area with small profits, but just imagine... If 1,000,000 people download something for $10, that's $10,000,000. And, it helps if it's not a half-assed attempt at entertainment. Capcom is leading the way in all areas of the video game industry. Everyone else should take note of what they are doing, and that's just a fact.
For whatever reason, I've become more and more interested in football these past few years. I remember watching the Houston Oilers when I was younger with my family, but when they moved away, I lost all interest. The Oilers moved to Tennesse to become the Titans.
After a few years, football was back in Houston. I wasn't too excited at the time... but now, I love it. Why? Who knows? But, I do know that I watch every Texans/Titans game because of the history of the two teams.
Today, I went to my first Texans game... and WE WON! Not only that, apparently my boss's brother (in Colorado) is somehow friends with Nick Ferguson (number 25), Texans' Safety. I got to meet my favorite players and go out on the field. It was a day to remember for so many reasons! It was great!

No, not Snow Infernus... although that would make more sense... It snowed today. It never snows in Houston. Well, I guess it does, just once every 5,000 years (which is weird because I've seen it snow here three times, and I'm only 27 years old, not 15,027). Maybe my Lost Planet dreams are coming true...? Needless to say, it was awesome even if it was just barely enough to stick to anything. Enough built up on my car, so I made some snowmen. Little did I know, they can get pretty violent:
What's the best thing about the snowmen on my hood? They stayed there on the drive home. They're pretty strong, able to withstand 50 mph. But, I did slide off on the last turn. The other jerks are still there. :(
I love snow. People tell me that's just because I haven't had to shovel a lot of it. Meh, I'd still like it.
