Cross Assault Daily Blog: The Final Four and the Road to Evo Gauntlet

Feb 28, 2012 // Mattdeezie

There are only five active players left in the competition. Today, these will be the only ones competing in the challenges, and at the end, our final four will be determined.  These will be our players who head off to Final Round to compete on stage this Saturday March 3 rd for the grand prize of $25,000 dollars.

We are very happy to be partnering up with Final Round on Cross Assault because it is one of the longest running independently run tournaments in the fighting game scene.  It’s these independent community influencers that laid the foundation for competitive fighting games, and the scene would never have made it to where it is today without their hard and often thankless work.  Hopefully Cross Assault can help bring even more hype to their already amazing event, and introduce some new people to how great this tournament really is.

Additionally, today’s theme is the Road to Evo.  The final four players will all get seeding points for the Street Fighter X Tekken tournament at Evolution 2012, which is far and away the biggest pinnacle of competitive fighting games that exists today.  It will be great to see how these competitors stack up against the best of the best, and whether or not Cross Assault helped push them to a higher level as a competitor.

The challenges today will be a culmination of the different daily themes, with a total of five rounds.   Each of these will either confirm who will be headed to the Elimination Match tonight, or who will be confirmed as one of the members of our final four.

The Road to Evo Gauntlet

Stage 1: Round Robin Tournament

The remaining five players will compete in a round robin tournament.  The player that scores the worst in this tournament will automatically be sent to tonight’s Elimination Match.

Stage 2: Pair Play

The remaining four players will be separated into two teams and compete using Pair Play mode.  The two teams will compete in a 3 out of 5 set.  The two players on the winning team will then face off against each other in a standard 3 out of 5 set.  The winner of this set will be confirmed as one of the final four, and will head to Final Round to compete for the $25,000 grand prize.

Stage 3: Combo Consistency

The remaining three players will be assigned combos, and will have a single chance to execute them.  Each time a player drops a combo when their opponents hit it, they will be eliminated from this challenge.  The last player standing will be confirmed as one of the final four, and will head to Final Round to compete for the $25,000 grand prize.

Final Boss: The Coach’s Gauntlet

The remaining two players will face off against the opposing team’s coach for 30 minutes straight.  For each round won, the player will be given 1 point.  For each match won, the player will be given 3 points.  The player with the higher score at the end of the 30 minute timeframe will be confirmed as one of the final four, and will head to Final Round to compete for the $25,000 grand prize.  The player with the lower score at the end of the 30 minute timeframe will be sent to the Elimination Match.

Hope you are all excited for our final day, and see you all on the stream at crossassault.ign.com !
