IPL becomes Official eSports home of Capcom’s fighting games

Nov 30, 2012 // Mattdeezie

Capcom is very excited to finally unveil its official partnership with the IGN Pro League. Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition as well as Street Fighter X Tekken will be headlining their fighting division, and this relationship can help spread the joy of fighting games to a wider audience than has ever been done before.

For those that have followed the fighting game scene for a long time, this may come as somewhat of a surprise, as Capcom has traditionally abstained from partnering with any corporate run tournament organizations.  That reluctance has actually been a good thing, because Capcom understands that it was the grassroots tournament organizers that built the scene into what it is today.  It’s these influential members of the community that we wanted to protect, who put on amazing events not for the money or the fame, but for the love of the genre and their passion for the sport.

One of the main reasons that we chose to partner with IPL is because they understand this.  Their goal is not to monopolize the community, but to strengthen it, and our main objective is to provide new and bigger opportunities for competitive players, spectators, and organizers.  Capcom would have never signed the deal if we had any doubt that those values would be taken advantage of, and we have the utmost confidence that the team that IPL and Capcom has assembled will do right by the community who helped build the scene with their blood, sweat and salty tears.

Our involvement at IPL5 is just a light tease of what is to come.  Today we have assembled some pretty exciting exhibition matches, and this will be the first showing of SFxTK Ver. 2013.  The build is still in development, but many changes have already been implemented, and this should be the first glimpse players have to see how SFxTK will evolve next year.  On Saturday and Sunday, we will be showcasing some of the most exciting moments from the SF25 series, to help build hype for the awesomeness that is our SF25 Grand Finals next weekend on December 8 th

It is truly a great time to be a fighting game fan.  Now let’s show those Starcraft and League of Legends players what we are made of!  Yo eSports!
