Sorry maybe this has beed discussed before but this bugs the hell out of me. In X8 they created an elevator that takes you to the moon....WHAT??? lol the moon revolves around the earth its impossible to connect the moon and the earth together the rotation would destroy the elevator. Correct me if im wrong but this elevetor is a stupid idea. |

It is called an Orbital Elevator. The Elevator Shaft only runs into the atmosphere. There, platform lifts interact with the Elevator and the Moon. It is just easier to get materials into Space and back without always using fuel and risking shuttle damages.

heyyy...now that I think about that....you are so right, it makes no sense. Plus it may say "orbital" but all we see is a giant tower from earth to the moon. |

That 'Tower' is an elevator. The first part of the Orbital Elevator. It takes goods outside out atmosphere, and is relayed to another piece of equipment to deliver it to the Moon, or other space structures.
The Tower - The Orbital Vehicle - Destination. Dig Site/Construction Zone - Orbital Vehicle - Tower.

The only thing holding us (society -- real people :P ) back from building an Orbital Elevator of our own is the fact that we can't produce the carbon nanotube materials well enough to build the shaft that high...so it's entirely plausible...
But it is kinda out there :P

Not only that, such a project would require a very deep foundation. It would have to be within the Earth, not on the Earth. That way, with suitable material, Natural Storms and the Planetary Rotation won't ruin it as quickly.
