Battle Network 5 definitely has more content, but the way almost everything was handled (especially the scenarios in 5 when compared to all of the other Battle Network games, this could really a course on how you DON'T design scenarios) ticked off a lot of fans back in the day. The only thing that really saved it in my eyes were Liberation missions (specifically the concept of said missions and the ability to play as other Navis), and even then I had some complaints about that as well.

6 has less content, but most people I know would say that it might be a more enjoyable experience overall, especially if you have friends to battle with and/or like building folders with different strategies. (6 obviously had the most refined version of the battle system in terms of forms and battlechip selection. If a completely new Battle Network game is made, the developers have a lot to live up to.)

1) Some scenarios were ridiculously frustrating. Of particular note are the drill and the castle scenarios, in which the drill scenario had you smashing rocks (sometimes while on a moving conveyor belt) and the End Castle scenario, which involved the 100-man battle and the ninja program puzzle. Both required precise diagonal movements, which are, for the most part, frustrating to do on a GBA or DS directional pad.

2) The internet was more maze-like than usual. There were plenty of complaints of people getting lost in the End Areas in particular.

3) There simply was not a good enough variety of battlechips, and as a result, some saw certain souls as mostly worthless. Another result was that liberation missions became much more luck-based as the game went on. (By this, I mean depending on what battlechips you can draw within the three turns and if the charged attack of the character you're currently using could actually hit anything.) Team Colonel Navis were much more effective in Liberation missions because of the way their charged attacks worked.

4) While not a gameplay-related complaint, the story progression was almost as ridiculous as 4's. For the most part, your future teammates caused more trouble than Nebula really did.

6 was more refined because of the overall way the game played.  Unlike the past 2 games, the virus system went back to V2 and V3 instead of EX versions.  The problem then was that you basically had to beat the game with V1-level chips as opposed to BN6 where you could start finding V2 viruses and chips when you beat the game rather than get pounded on by masses of EX viruses.

Chips were more balanced.  Again, V2 and V3 system was back.  You no longer had to be stuck with V1 Navi chips for half the game (as ridicoulously weak as they were) because you can get the EX version, then the SP version rather than just SP and the DS chip you'll never use.

Strength-wise, BN6 played a lot faster.  Chips do more power and create faster-paced battles as a result in btoh in-game battles and PvP battles.  BN5 has terribly weak attacks which was not nearly enough to effectively battle viruses without getting killed (in the end-game areas).

In my opinion, BN5's primary thing was the ability to play as navis besides MM.

But until the DS version, the ability to play as the other navis was rather limited.

I also felt somewhat cheated by the fact that Mega was typically the most useless character in the game, since only hardcore customization fans and those with the patience for the secret-dungeon content could really give MM any real power. For most of the game his only real advantage is that he didn't need a buster-up chip to have high damage with the buster shot.

The "3-turn-liberation" rule would have been more bearable if the game didn't automatically open the chip selection screen, since I tend to be rather buster and charge shot dependent, I may take a while but I don't necessairly need chips in my fighting, and with the exception of a few chips like Guardian most of the chips weren't well suited for liberation missions.

okay you guys are right about all of that but i wouldnt call megaman the useless character to play as but rather the other navis cause basically megaman was like the only character suited for battle on there while the others completely throw your folder strategies off and the fact that there normal shot only did one damage made it more annoying.

i like 5 because of the quality and the new battle system, but 5 never really made me feel mega...

6 however had the best battle system but it was too short. but the multiplayer is better of course!

So my opinion!

Battle Network 5 is a Great Game it just has a Tedious Storyline and Walkthrough!

Battle Network 6 added lots of powers and potential even a good story, but It did'nt last not even Gregar SP, after 100 hours or so.
