Megaman 9 is not how I expected it to be

I think part of it is that the series has subtly changed styles over time. Classic is different from X is different from Zero is different from ZX. And that's just the ones that are 2D platformers. If a player was weaned on the Zero games for example, with subweapons and cyberelves to help you out, it could be a shock to play a game with all that stuff stripped away. Not that the Zero games are easy by any means, but they require different skills and strategies.

I think it's been said above, but gamers these days are just not used to the difficulty level of oldschool games like Mega Man. Even people who grew up with the games have just gotten used to the much more gradual and adaptive difficulty curves that are present in a lot of modern games, which I think is what prompted a lot of reviews to give it that 'high difficulty' status.

There's a great article on Gamasutra on the risk/reward mechanisms in Mega Man 9 (and similar "retro" games): http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=21324

Yes I agree. I remember I hated the classic games at first b/c I had grown up w/ the X series so I was so used to the dashing, wall kick etc.

But after a while it gets not that hard once you get used to it but there are still somethings that annoy(*cough dissappearing blocks cough*)

Huh, I remember that my first megaman game was X, and I also remember that my primitive mind at the time could not beat it.

But hey, I beat  MM 9 with protoman...I guess that's something?

too bad there was no acheivement for it though.

I agree and if both modes actually had achievments, I think it would been a tad better! and probably some few additional features to the game wouldn't really hurt too.

To me playing as protoman is it's own reward but I get sad when I beat wily cause all he does is leave and we don't see any cool ending.

people say it's hard as H3ll and stuff but it isnt' that hard. The only levels honestly still give me trouble are Hornetman's level and Jewelman's level the latter not being that hard just annoying.

Once you play a level a few times it's really easy to beat.

I haven't played MM9 yet and already I heard Megaman has no charge shot?
