Has anyone beaten Protoman mode?

Alright I know they're are a lot of really good classic megaman players here(niko for one) that can pretty much beat the game taking little damage so I'm sure Protoman wasn't hard for them.

Anyway so I finally beat Megaman 9 for the first time using Protoman(yeah I haven't beaten it w/ Megaman lol) and It was definately worth those 2 bucks to play as my favorite character in the classic series.

The first wily stage is problably the only level in any Megaman game that I can consistently beat w/o taking any damage including the boss fight so that level's pretty easy even for Protoman.

The second stage is annoying where that part where there are spikes at the bottom and the top and you have to jump but there's the annoying roof right on top of you, that part makes me kinda nervous but I can sometimes get around just by jumping it but it's pretty inconsistent. the boss isn't hard.

The third stage was annoying until I finally figured out the pattern for the second hovering part and the Yellow/green devils were annoying but I finally got their pattern and they usually only get at most 2 hits on me now

The Fourth stage is definately annoying as hell. I can beat most pretty easily now but Concrete, Hornet if I don't kill the bees ASAP and Magma give me alot of trouble.

The first form Wily is hard at first but once you figure out the pattern of the eggs he's not that hard. The second Wily form IMO is the worst since you don't really know how long till he goes down plus when he lands it paralyzes you for a second and C-shot isn't exaclty the easiest weapon to use. The third Wily I just abuse Hornets and E Tanks and the M tank when I run out of Hornets.

I haven't played much (at all) with Protoman yet, but I consider myself a pretty decent MM player.

I can understand how hard the Green & Yellow Devil thingy (did we ever get the official enemy names?) must've been if you hadn't gone through first with Rock and/or memorized the pattern before attempting it with Blues.

My strategy for Wily's 2nd form (headless Dinobot) when he hovers up to smash you, is to run almost all the way to the right side of the screen, the book it back to the left side. Those flames are always hit-and-miss with me though. Maybe the 5th/6th time through I dodged them all, but after that I started losing my touch. :(

BTW- does a charge shot on Dr. Wily's 3rd form (Totally-Unfair-Jerk-Ship-Pod-Thing-of-Death) do more than one tic of damage to him? That would be awesome if it did.

Yeah, for Wily's second form, depending on how close you are to him and how high you jump at the time right as it's about to shoot fire, that is essentially where the fire will go, leaving you room to either back up or stand under it, depending where he is. Concrete shot works very well on this, if you have any left. For the final form, the form we've been seeing since MM4...Plug Ball seems to be the best on that. And if you're not too concerned about taking some damage, when he's low enough, just get right in there and you can get a god three to four shots in on him.

well I've beaten Wily a few times.

The second form is the hardest and the third form is tiresome.

The hardest part w/ Protoman are Magmaman and Wily form 2/3.

HUH, beating it with protoman before megaman ehy??

I guess the playthrough with mega man is just going to generally be a pushover.

But besides that, wily himself is only difficult, to me that is, on his final form. This is only due to the lack of defense protoman has in taking damage.

But the second form becomes child play if you have good beat and rthymn. I easily destroyed his second form without even trying...mostly due to the fact that the concrete chot completely obliterates him.

I still felt a bit of accomplishment though when beating it with him...almost got the acheievement for beating it under an hour too. 8 mins. off.

Let me get this straight. You can play Mega Man 9, as Proto Man? Sounds neat. But you guys did say that Proto Man is weaker than Mega Man, and takes more damage when hit, right?

Yes, that is correct, Protoman in Megaman 9 takes a whole lot more damage and inflicts less as well but I also found that his addition to the game was quite awesome!

Well if you ask me, and I'm sure its been said here more than a few times: There should have been a BASS mode.

Sigh...Why must they continue to leave at least one of them out of it. Mega Man & Bass, had just that: Mega Man and Bass as playable characters, and now, Mega Man 9, with playable Mega Man and Proto Man?

I seriously hope that Mega Man 10 has both Proto Man, and Bass mode, if they make it. I hope Mega Man 10 is set up like Mega Man X7-X8 where you can have a tag team, and use any combination of two, between Mega Man, Proto Man and Bass for each stage. That would be awesome.

Yeah I beat it w/ Protoman first. Once I downloaded Protoman I never played w/ Megaman again until a like 2 days ago.

Anyway I love Protomode, the double damage thing doesn't effect me anymore since I usually don't end up taking that much damage. I only use me E/M tanks for Wily and I only use like 3-4.

*A SPOILER ALERT APPROACHES!!*

That's an interesting idea, and personally, I'd like to see MM10 go back to the MM7/8 art style. It would be fitting especially if they decide to include a slightly darker story line like the emergence of Zero- although I doubt it since MM9 seems to leave off with the little hint that Bass is being upgraded by Dr. Wily. Who knows for sure though? The blue prints of Bass at the end of the game may just be there because Wily is assessing what he did right and what could be improved upon his Bass design for the purpose of creating Zero later.

Hmm...I forgot what we were talking about originally. Oh right...Protoman. It would be neat if he was playable out-of-the-box in MM10 instead of made into a microtransaction. That would be nice. ;)
