for those of you who don't know the story of "Mega Ran," check this great interview out...

    http://www.hipsterplease.com/2007/11/free-to-be-random.html

    and I quote...

Mega Ran is very much a concept album. What was the genesis of this project?

I really couldn't tell you. I literally woke up one day and got an idea to make an entire project on Mega Man beats. I gotta credit YTCracker for his NES album, which was the first time I'd heard an entire album with NES-sampled tracks. So, 2 years later, when I read that this was the 20th anniversary of a character which pretty much defined and shaped my childhood, I wanted to make one track, and when I couldn't find just one to use, MEGA RAN was born.

WHOLE STORY: I heard the music and wanted to make something cool out of it.

So I did. I released an album called "Mega Ran."

    People, like Kotaku cared.

after that, some great things started happening...

    Like this Wired Article.

LP: How did that shake out?

Random: That was an emotional roller coaster ride. I received a message on MySpace from a guy from Capcom saying "We heard you're doing a Mega Man tribute album." It hadn't even come out at that time, and yet it was on IGN.com as one of their "Hot Albums," and was all over the net somehow. This is how I learned that news travels fast online. The email was pretty light-hearted. The guy at Capcom told me, "Don't worry, this isn't a cease-and-desist order" with a smiley face.

That guy was Chris, pictured up top.

This led to even more great stuff...

so here I am, a nerd from the city, who created a Mega Man hip-hop album ..

    strange, eh?

    gets weirder.

even 'mainstream' underground hip hop reviewers liked it!

Now when I go to a show, or a convention, I can perform the same songs and they all et pretty darn good reactions. win-win.

Oh, you can feel free to check it out on iTunes.

one thing I promised I would do was release the instrumental versions of the records, but for some reason, I never got around to it.

    So, here they are.

maybe someone will rap on them, I hope so.

enjoy, these are the beats used on my little "Mega Ran" project.
