While I don't know if I can call myself the ULTIMATE MegaMan Fan. I'd certanly LIKE too. I've been playing MegaMan games since I was in Elementary. Over the years I've watched the series grow, and produce spin off, after spin off.
Frankly it's been a blast, and I still hope to this day that it never ends!
So into MegaMan have I been, that my friends joke with me that if this was a world without MegaMan, it'd be my worst nightmare! Well I don't know if you can go THAT far. But I do like to say that "I am to MegaMan, what Trekkies are to Star Trek!" ^_^
That's me showing off my collection. The shirt I'm wearing is a MegaMan 15th Anniversary Gamestop Uniform shirt. I managed to get this thanks to some friends at Gamestop. I never worked at a Gamestop, so I was very afraid I'd miss out on this awsome shirt. Thankfully, that wasn't the case! I make no lie when I say that the shirt I am wearing in that picture is my favorite shirt!
My introduction to MegaMan began long ago when a friend of mine rented MegaMan 3. I use to stay over at his house all the time to play his NES, so I got a chance to try the game out.
I was amazed! The gameplay of choosing which boss to tackle first, and then attempt to make your way through the level, was something so new and intriguing. Sadly I didn't get to beat the game, but the memory of that night would stay with me for years to come.
Eventually I had an NES of my own, and while browsing some used games for sale at a local video rental store. I came across what would be my VERY FIRST MegaMan game. MegaMan V.
Though I knew little of what was going on, or who was who. I played through the game. Ever intent, ever at the edge of my seat, longing to know what came next! When I finally beat the game, I was estatic! It was so much fun, that I played the game again and again.
Before long, I began to find and collect more MegaMan games. Attempting to fill out the entire collection. It was a great day when I learned that MegaMan V was NOT the last MegaMan game for the NES. Upon finding out that a MegaMan VI was spotted at my local Toy's R Us, I imedantly purchased a copy when I had the money.
The years went by, and I continued to expand my collection. Searching far and wide to find those games I didn't have. Trading a guitar to a friend for MegaMan X3. Lucking out and finding a Video store going out of buissness that just HAPPENED to have a copy of MegaMan VII!
When Legends came out, I was there to buy it, and once again I fell in love with the gameplay of this new MegaMan. Going so far as to not only buy the sequal, but the Missadventures of Tron Bonne as well!
Now if only I could get a MegaMan Legends 3 already! Come on! You've left me hanging for years now! :(
Though I wasn't a big fan of the Battle Network series, I've made my attempts to collect it as well. I simply love MegaMan. He's my favorite Super Hero, hands down! I've played all the games I could get my hands on. I've collected and watched the cartoon. There was a time when I knew all the Robot Master and Maverick weapons that you get from them by heart.
In fact, back in school while reading Anne Frank. I was given the assignment to draw a picture, that has SOME element or refference to Anne Frank in it.
Deciding to be creative. I came up with this:
While rather silly in nature, my teacher found it amusing enough to give me a passing grade. :P Later I was asked to do a report on any subject I wanted.
Naturally the subject of my report were the MEGAMAN games! ^_^ (Got a passing grade on that one too!) Sadly I do NOT have this report to show you. The fact I kept that artwork after all these years is something in itself.
Dr. Wily sits dutifully atop my NES games, daring me to beat him! :P
While my collection may very well pale in comparison to some other folks collections. I've done my best to obtain all the MegaMan Merch I can get, as well as many MegaMan games I can get.
Such as these Hot Wheel cars. Of which I'm certain are more that I need to track down. I've also collected many of the action figures that JazWares has brought out.
There you can also see some MegaMan Fan Artwork I've come across, as well as my MegaMan Network Transmission poster!
Still so many more to go...
I even have some mini doller ones, I found at a Doller Tree Store.
A shot of a couple of my model kit figures, along with a Tron Bonne from a "Girls of Capcom" Figure set. That small guy on the left is the MegaMan that came with the Marvel Vs Capcom figure set of him and warmachine. Behind them you can see not only both seasons of the Cartoon. (Well three, if you count the one episode of season 3) But the specail MegaMan OVA, which considering Japan is one of the forgien countries I'm interested in. It was a great pleasure to learn more about it, thanks to none other then MegaMan himself!
Here's a set of a couple of american models, along with some older Japanese ones, that sadly didn't quite survive one of my many moves intact. :/
Some of my BIG figures.
A shot of the 15th Anniversary Wallscroll, with three MegaMan pins on the top there. Another picture of fan artwork of MegaMan. Also see that card there? That's my student ID from highschool. Though that was a long time ago, I kept it, and though it's hard to see, that is a picture of Rush Jet Adaptor MegaMan pasted over where my pic use to be on it. ^_^
This is my set of MegaMan X8 figures. It's the entire set for the exception of Zero. Who, despite my efforts, I just can't seem to FIND! >_<
Rockman Yen anyone?
I even went as far as to grab the American MegaMan Cartoon Soundtrack!
A few of the more odd items in my collection. Including a digital clock, a folder for my 'Toy' Battle Network chips, and a Rockman EXE Bento box!
Admitingly, I purchased this Capcom Artbook mainly for the MegaMan (Or in this case Rockman) Pictures! I was very pleased to find it even came with a specail MegaMan comic!
Now if I only knew what it said...
These two items are of particular interest. Here we have my copy of the Novelization of MegaMan 2, from the old "Worlds of Power" book series. But the greater treasure lies in this guide book of mine.
I've done countless internet searchs on this sucker, and have come up with nothing! It's a rather well detailed stratagy guide on the first three MegaMan games, along with a few peeks and tips on the first Gameboy title.
It included neat little 'File Reports' about the events that preceeded the games, and even a specail interview with MegaMan himself at the end of the book!
Either this guide is EXTREMELY rare, or people just don't know about it. Which makes me VERY happy to own a copy!
I remember when I heard that MegaMan was getting a comic series. Words can not express how much I looked forward to it! Anxiously I would visit my local comic book store. Despertly hoping the next volume had come out! It's a real shame that DreamWare had to stop producing the comics. I was really enjoying them. So much that I even bought the specail 'Manga' book that was just all four comics in one place.
Ah, but my very PRIZED possession of MegaMan Merch. Has to be THIS:
My MegaMan X Controller! Only brought out when I need that extra boost while playing a game! XD
My collection may not be vast, but my memories of MegaMan are.
I use to get together with friends for sleepovers, and each night we would attempt to beat one of the SNES MegaMan X games, while also trying to find all the little hidden secrets. We'd order a pizza, and just play the night away. It was great, but after a while I had to choose which bosses I would tackle, because I had gotten so good, I would be able to beat the game without ever dying. :P
One of the greatest stories I have of these nights, is of MegaMan X2, which just so happens to be my favorite MegaMan X game!
Before the internet, we had spent hours trying to find the Armor upgrade capsule. Only to be met with no luck. Finally I had called a friend who DID have internet and asked him where it was.
"In Morph Moth's Stage" was the reply. With info that it was near the begining of the level. So onward did we try. Many hours later still, we had not found it. Finally, forced to sleep. We surrendered for the night.
The next day it was searching all over again, but STILL no luck! So finally I called the friend again and asked for the EXACT location of the capsule. To which he did his best to give me.
Again my friends and I transversed the obsticals of the stage. Only to, once again, come out empty handed. We practically KNEW where it was. Yet we could not find where we had to use the wheel to dig it out.
Finally while looking at the weapon select screen, my eyes fell on the helmt ability and how it was designed to 'seek out hidden areas.' After some screeming at myself, and my friends asking what was up. I presented them with my findings.
"What's this?" I said to them. Highlighting the helmet.
"The Helmet," Came their reply.
"And what does it DO!?"
We proceeded to hit ourselves upside the heads for that. >_<
Finally we come to my game collection. A collection that includes a couple of games that I purchased not JUST for the game itself. But also because of the MegaMan Cameos in them!
Well there you go. The entire collection of games. I've beaten ALMOST all of them. I hate to admit that I've yet to completely master them all, but it's not by lack of trying!
I eagerly look forward to being able to Play MegaMan 9! ^_^ I've already beaten the demo four times, and each time wish I could at least FIGHT the Robot Master! I mean come ON! It's just one level for the demo! I could at LEAST be allowed to fight Concrete Man! >_<
While much of my collection is shown here, there are a few things I wasn't able to get pictures of. I have more posters then shown here, and even have a MegaMan Legends Christmas card! (which I sadly can't find where I packed it to take a picture.)
I've also cosplayed as a Sniper Joe at an Anime Convention, but don't have any pictures of the costume on hand at this time.
I really don't know what else to say. I just really REALLY love MegaMan, and hope that it shows in this blog post. I mean, I've beaten X7 with all THREE people! Axl, Zero, and X! I hate to say it Capcom. But as much as I love the MegaMan Series... X7 was a mistake. >_<
You did great with X8 though, so I completely forgive you! I really hope we get an X9 sometime.
Though if you REALLY want to make me happy. Make 'Maverick Hunter X2'!!! I mean come ON! It's my favorite X game! An update of it would be SO SUPER AWSOME! ^___^
Anyway, that's it for this MegaFan. It's time for me to get some rest so I'm ready to beat Dr. Wily again in the morning!
Later days! This a MegaManoholic. Signing off:
