Just some quick thoughts on the event:

It was a great event. The prelims were shown on Spike for free, which was nice. They were actually really great. Ultimate fighter winner Ryan Bader got a very nice unanimous decision over Eric Schaffer.

Patrick Barry TKO'd Antoni Hardonk in the 2nd round oftheir fight. Barry got a bit emotional with his victory which was a little funny but understandable considering him being a relatively new face.

After that the PPV began. I was impressed with Anthony Johnson's 41 second TKO over Yoshiyuki Yoshida. Johnson is definitely one vicious dude.

Joe "Daddy" Stevenson elbowed Spencer Fisher into submission! That's definitely a sick way to make an opponent tap. Props to that. You gotta love Joe Daddy.

Now comes a fight I was very excited for, Velasquez vs. Rothwell. I've been a fan of Velasquez for a bit now & I can see him taking over his division if he continues performing the way he does. Velasquez completely dominates Rothwell the first round & throughout the second round before the Ref called for a stoppage. Rothwell was up against the cage coming to his feet as Velasquez was striking him to the head repeatedly but when the ref stopped the fight, Rothwell was on his feet & appeared to be fine. It was a bit of a premature stoppage, but either way I didn't see Rothwell getting out of that second round. Velasques was just vicious & very well conditioned while Rothwell took a lot of punishment & was starting to look tired.

Now on to the Main Event of the Evening, Shogun Rua vs. Lyoto Machida for the Light Heavyweight title. This fight ended up going the distance, 5 full rounds. Shogun has never looked this good. He was very well conditioned & was at the top of his game. He definitely put on a great performance. Shogun landed these powerful leg kicks all throughout the fight & was really wearing Machida down. Machida was his usual self with his very patient style before he jumps in with powerful strikes. In the end, the judges scored the bout 48-47 in favor of Machida who retained his title via unanimous decision. This wasn't a very popular decision & the fans seemed to have been under the impression that Shgun had won the fight, but in the end, it was an extremely close fight & very hard to call it one way or the other.

So that was UFC 104, you guys may have noticed that I didn't write about UFC 103. I may go & cover my thoughts on that event soon. Truth is, after I saw my hero Rich Franklin lose, I wasn't in the mood to write, haha. Oh well, it just happens sometimes. I'll definitely try to cover that & will definitely continue to cover all future UFC events.
