Seems like somone's figured out how to alter save file information on the SD card for MH4

Originally posted on mh3Neko32's blog (but seemingly removed, I can't find it again). 15k attack? 3400 slime? 3125 defense? Looks legit.

The altering of save data might also explain this:

Crimson fatalis just appearing in the mysterious forest and made into a Guild Quest by some lucky player? Highly unlikely. Chances are he was going to be a surprise in a DLC-only quest, but someone managed to find out his entity value in the game's code and put it into a Guild Quest.

I sincerely hope Capcom patches this.

I wonder how many HR 999s you'll see popping up everywhere before Capcom figures out a way to prevent this from working.

Still not as bad as hacking MHFU and throwing infinite knives, but it's still bad.

If we get MH4 I don't intend to play online with strangers instead of with my own group, but this is definitely something that needs to be patched.

It depends on how easy it is to do. How many people have we heard of doing this? What kind of tools does it require? If its something you need special tools for then I don't think there's any reason to worry. If its something anyone can easily do, which I doubt, then its still no worse than things were on the PSP games.

The thing about this is that it CAN'T be patched.  They're opening the .dat file in the savedata with a hex editor and modifying it(on their PC).  I honestly don't get why people think that devs leave some loophole that allows you to hack or modify game data that you can miraculously patch.  All you need is a hex editor to modify the code and to what you want and the game will read it as such(though be careful what you put in as you can do things like crash the game with the wrong value).

This only works with the digital version, right? I know 3U saved to the cart, I assumed MH4 would do the same.

Didn't MH3U also have data that saved to the SD card as well too though?

3U only saved your guild card list and DLC to the SD card, the rest was on the cart.

Actually, it only works with the cartridge versions of the game at the moment, Jask ^^

And yeah, it's quite easy. Buy extra hardware, edit cartridge save data, play. There are also simple cheats provided like money, resource points and the hacked weapon you see everywhere. Things get more interesting if you look at the savefile itself tho. (Btw, yes, that crimson fatalis is a modified guild quest but I guess it could be done legit. Fatalis @ Lvl100 changes to crimson).

However I don't see why many people are THAT stupid and go online with hacked characters?! I actually lost my bet with a friend then haha. (I was assuming they'd certainly use a hack 'protection' like in Tri since MH4 has a dedicated online MP, seems I was wrong. Will keep my 2nd 3DS for the "funny" stuff offline tho).
