still havent got a PS3 myself but my bud has it and is playing ad-hoc online since i wanna play some games and still play MH all i have to do is just save up to buy them all at once lol

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but you can't play online through PS3 in NA because Sony has not offered that PartyHoc software for us yet. Only in Japan...so you would have to set up a Japanese PSN acct to download it.
