Some items have better chances in capture, others in kill.  Some don't show up.

So if you dont get item one way, try other.

Some tips, Most monster don't limp when in rage. ALot of monster go into Rgae more often when low on health.

Breath, crabs and such breath bubbles, hard to see.  (do this during rage normally dont mistake that.) You'll notice suddenly when not in rage, it spitting bubbles, Also don't mitake normal breathing..  All else fails, Guru skill or count hits.

Limpers.

Most monsters limp, Monster Like Garuga will only limp if they don't see you.

Hypnoc back feather drop (like kut ku ears)

Gypceroes loves faking death, then limping. (2* quest comes with pittrap and tranqs if you need him)

Khezu stands still and breaths...he stops fighting back...

Basa.. Runs, and more often then not you'll never see him limp inless he does his walk. (use guru)

Gravios is brave monster, and wont limp most of the time. Every now and then he'll turn tail in rage or normal and limp off.  He'll also walk towards you in limp, (use guru, he can be catched before limp even kicks in)

Dromes run off to nother area, so ease up on attacks.

Naru, would rather die then be caught. He has probaly one of lowest values. Use Guru.  If you see yellow marker pop up, Catch! he will probaly die very soon.

Blos Family, they don't run very often (to limp) But will often head to area most monsters sleep as a sign. They also go into Rage after almost every hit when weak.

Tiggie will Limp off, he normally wont limp when in rage. But does every now and then.  He also goes into rage on about every hit when weak.

Cepho/Plesi fins drops

Lavasauce!,  Use Guru...I'd have to go kill one and pay attention...lol

Monkeys Limp, and go find sleep. (conga, blango, rajang)

added tip for Narga:

can only (and easily considering he charges more) be pitfalled when enraged.  lasts a long time, usually long enough to take him out of rage.  you can also freely put him into rage with a sonic bomb.  useful if you place a pitfall and he immediatly leaves rage-mode, or if you want to pitfall him at the beginning of a fight.

Nice tip, thanks. So tired of him jumping and breaking the pitfall that I changed to shock. Just 7 more fangs to complete his armor set.

Can anyone confirm that breaking any part of then capturing decreases the rewards that are given?

one thing i know about MH, there is a LOT of superstition...

from my experience, no, this is not true.  for example, the last Rathalos i fought (was a hard-rank online; helping people two days ago) dropped a plate in the bottom part of the rewards and we broke all 4 parts and captured.

if your theory was true, he would not have dropped a plate on the bottom row of the rewards, where capture and broken parts rewards show.

Its hard to determine whether or not it is true.

There are times when you capture, and you get ALOT of rewards.

There are times when you capture and you get virtually nothing.

Same goes for killing.

Basing it off of one event isn't really enough to get solid conclusion, not saying ur wrong Sapien, just its not enough to prove it for me.

Be that as it may, I'm not the *superstitious* type, I don't believe petting the pig does anything, to many peoples disappoint, nor do I believe capturing a broken monster gives less rewards, though the concept makes sense.

If you *break* something off, (this is thinking logically) then that part would not be apart of the final rewards if you captured said monster.

Anyways, yea, dunno.

well, one scenario is enough to determine... but i was wrong in one sense:  you can get plates as an additional capture reward.

so, my example doesnt prove my point.

i have this horrilbe problem of admitting when im wrong.  i really need to stop it ;)  then again, im not necessarily wrong, just my proof was off!

Breaking a part on capture add's "break part" to capture. but you lose chance from capture awards.

So your not really missing out on a item, I've seen differnce on busting up los and ian and then catching to keep them in one peice.

Like I said before, if you got x2 carve skill, chop the tail. Just as good chance as capture. Every monster has itlest one rare drop wether break/cut part or not. (for awards)

Captureing for me, has yeilded in most cases better awards hands down over time then just killing.
