I know you can manage to sometimes get extra carves off of monsters if you pet the pig properly. Not sure if it serves any further purpose.

I believe it increases luck and that in turn allows for rarer carves... but i thought you knew that tommy Wink

Pet the pig for luck. Luck with carves? Maybe. Just better luck in general? Maaaybe. There are some people who believe that petting the pig does nothing. Is that true? Could be.

The best guess I can make after playing for awhile is that the small heart on the big is very smaller to the felyne 'Ultra lucky cat skill' while the large heart is roughly equivalent to the 'Mega lucky cat skill' (*note: mega IS better than ultra, I was surprised to learn that but oh well.)

If you pet the pig, bullfangos and mosswines are less likely to attack you, because you were nice to a cousin of theirs lol
