I don't even know how Gundam and Monster Hunter can compare... But I guess Japanese are just like that, right?

I wouldn't worry about the sales numbers.. the game will keep selling. All games that are this big have a large opening and quickly lose sales. If the game doesn't sell well in the next six months and doesn't manage to break a million in JP... I still wouldn't worry.

Its coming to the states!

Exactly. I actually didn't expect it to break a million in Japan. I knew it would get at least half way there like it did. I think it will get close to a million but I doubt it's going to break a million

"Monster Hunter 3 is Japan's best-selling third-party Wii game

by JC Fletcher { Aug 13th 2009 at 1:15PM }

Sinobi posted a list of the top ten third-party games on the Wii in Japan in terms of sales. At the top of the list, based on Enterbrain sales numbers acquired early by Sinobi, sits Capcom's Monster Hunter 3, with 720,000 copies sold.

Despite the best-seller status, we doubt Capcom is pleased with these sales numbers. The publisher famously shipped one million copies of the game, which have yet to sell through. While sales of the hardware bundle have been good, the standalone version of the game sold only 40% of its stock in the first week, and is already being dropped in price in some stores by over half."

EDIT: nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/08/13/monster-...

that being said ill drop a few other stats on you, like: 80% of the MH:Tri/wii bundle packs are sold, and if i remember correctly something like 70% of the controller bundles are sold, so both of those are selling like hotcakes and its only the stand alone game on sale that is lagging behind expected sales. so yes some places have discounted the game already in japan, but im sure this is only to spur movement of the stand alone game itself which isnt performing as expected/hoped...

but another thing that has to be taken into account is that buying the stand alone game without actually buying the classic controller pro will allow you to only play with the wii mote/nunchuck controls, so perhaps this is just indicating how gamers prefer to play tri? (this last bit is speculation on my part)

Cant wait until Monster Hunter Tri releases to PAL...
hopefully Monster Hunter G will hold me off until tri gets here... =)

Too bad it won't see those figures here in the US. The only way I see it making thosse figures in the US is to release it before 2010. If not, MH3 will not do good.

Too many Heavy Hitters in 2010.

Thats true. Maybe in January, the only good/ok game coming out then is the super mario galaxy 2.

Over 700 thousand copies sold already, huh?
Not bad, considering a lot of MH fans in Japan
were still really looking forward to the next
MH game to be on the PS3. But I think the series,
MONSTER HUNTER, is just so good, the fans will
embrace any new iteration of the game no matter
what platform it goes to. At least, the majority of them.

Excellent work on updating us with all the latest
information, CHRIS.

This is MUSOKEN, and I approve this message.

thanks MUSOKEN im trying to keep up with how its doing sales wise but i havent been able to find anything past the 2nd week of sales... until now! ok this is a different sites chart to the one i planned on showing and the chart isnt nearly as sexy but this one is all in english:

The DSi and Wii dominated Japanese hardware sales during the week ended August 16, with titles for the two platforms also taking seven of the top ten places on the software chart.

DSi sales were up nearly 20,000 units week-on-week as combined DSi and DS sales hit 95,857. Wii sales were flat at 48,000 units, with PSP around 8,000 sales behind. Xbox 360 sales rose by 4,000 units to clear 9,000, which was more than enough to help the console place comfortably ahead of PS3 and PS2 in the rankings.

DSi - 87,936
Nintendo Wii - 47,732
PSP - 39,882
Xbox 360 - 9,162
DS Lite - 7,921
PS3 - 5,944
PS2 - 4,907

In the software chart Dragon Quest IX leapt two places to regain the top spot. Tomodachi Collection and Wii Sports Resort both moved up two places to take second and third respectively, the latter title passing the three million domestic sales mark in the process. Monster Hunter 3 fell from second to fourth, while SD Gundam G Generation Wars dropped four places to fifth.

Dragon Quest IX (DS, Square Enix) - 127,000
Tomodachi Collection (DS, Nintendo) - 126,000
Wii Sports Resort (Wii, Nintendo) - 105,000
Monster Hunter 3 (Wii, Capcom) - 93,000
SD Gundam G Generation Wars (PS2, Namco Bandai) - 57,000
Tales Of Versus (PSP, Namco Bandai) - 35,000
Puyo Puyo 7 (DS, Sega) - 29,000
Monster Hunter Portable 2 G (PSP, Capcom) - 27,000
Colour Changing Tingle's Balloon Trip Of Love (DS, Nintendo) - 18,000
A Penguin's Troubles X: 7 Warriors Of The Sky (DS, Konami) - 18,000

Monster Hunter 3 - 93,000? that means sales would be firmly around the 800,000 mark give or take at week 3 of sales, which is nothing to be disappointed with, that is a massive number of games sold, and its still only early days yet...
