Per Wikipedia: Simulation is the imitation of some real thing, state of affairs, or process. The act of simulating something generally entails representing certain key characteristics or behaviours of a selected physical or abstract system Ok now that that's out of the way i think it's time to clear up a few things. In the past Gp has had what has been referred to as sim mode and since this seems to be a hot topic i will address it. Technically all these games have been simulations because they "simulate" the act of riding around Gp tracks on Gp machines. I think the question that needs to be asked is "How accurate a simulation are we looking at?" Well if we go back to the Climax series not a very good one. The handling was nothing at all even remotely resembling a motorcycle. To further confuse the issue Climax puts in a "sim mode" or a "sim slider" leading one to believe that in fact "sim mode" is how a motorcycle really behaves. Whomever on this forum rides or races would know that it couldn't be further from the truth. I won't go into details because that would require most of the bandwidth used by these forums. Basically the sim slider in reality was a difficulty slider and sim mode was just a super difficult mode. Then along came Milestone. While not the definitive simulation at least the bikes handle a tad more like real motorcycles. Of course there are little tricks here and there that you could never do on a real bike. For example in Gp08 if you feather the brake while you turn the bike will hold the line, if you do that on a real bike, you will probably at best stand the bike up. Regardless there are more than a few characteristics that make this a better sim than it's predecessor. That being said I think Milestone got it right with the different modes since it's really not based on a difficulty slider rather it turns on/ off different rider aids like grass assist traction etc. Now take a game like Gp500,while not perfect it's pretty damn close when you hit the throttle the bike does pretty much what a real bike would do. More throttle while turning = go wide let off the throttle= decreases your turning radius. Slam the front brake on wile in a complete lean you fall, and so on and so forth. One last issue i would like to address , only because it's a popular topic is sliding. Motorcycle racing (well racing in general really) is all about traction. The more grip the faster you can go it's simple. Spinning the tire up while in certain circumstances may help you out of a corner but if you were to slide around every corner you would lose time not gain time. That is provided you are simulating a motorcycle. The key to making a successful game is to make an accurate motorcycle SIMULATOR with varying levels of difficulty but at the end of the day the bike needs to handle like a bike. So arcade , advanced , sim is probably not a correct wording More like Novice , advanced , and extreme (or whatever you get the point). The point is that Simulation has been a misused term for way to long since we truly have not had a GP simulation. are you listening Steve?????????

So long as this "baby" makes an appearance. Per Wikepedia: Stimulation is the action of various agents (stimuli) on muscles, nerves, or a sensory end organ vyv, by which activity is evoked; especially, the nervous impulse produced by various agents on nerves, or a sensory end organ, by which the part connected with the nerve is thrown into a state of activity. The word is also often used metaphorically. For example, an interesting or fun activity can be described as "stimulating," regardless of its physical effects on nerves. |

Point and match for WhoDaFunk, hes right But the way, if you ask me, for me the perfect simulator would be kinda MGP08 but fixxing some minor "sim bugs" like rear break lock and the slide when youre cornerin at high speed (i mean MGP08 bikes slides too much, specially if you think MGP bikes has Traction control in real life). So minor changes in this physics and i think we can get the best for sim and the best for enjoy (or stimulation lol) |
