1942: Joint Strike takes flight on July 23

    Wednesday, July 9, 2008, 11:00 AM [General]

In an email sent out to the press this morning, Capcom announced that Xbox 360 gamers will be returning to the Pacific theatre of 1942: Joint Strike on July 23, with PlayStation 3 owners trailing just a day behind them on July 24th. The cost of which has been set at 800 Microsoft points, or $10.00 US if you're not paying in moon bucks. Check out the release below-

    Hi guys,

Capcom wanted to let you know that the highly anticipated shooter 1942: Joint Strike will be releasing soon. The classically inspired vertical arcade shooter1942: Joint Strike arrives on PSN 7/24 and on XBLA on 7/23.

1942: Joint Strike takes inspiration and influence from the ‘80s 194X series of World War II-themed vertical arcade shooters. The art, sound and gameplay of the new game take cues from the original 194X games, but will stand out as its own unique entry. Gameplay will resemble the classic 2D style that gamers expect, but the game utilizes a fully 3D engine. Set in a World War II-themed locale, stages, vehicles and weapons have the look and feel of WWII with some stylistic differences.

The new 1942: Joint Strike features 2-player online cooperative play. Graphics and music have been similarly updated by Backbone Entertainment, the developers of this latest entry into the 194X series. There’s also a brand new score for the game created by Norihiko Hibino, an international composer well-known for his work creating music for the Metal Gear series.

Please let us know if you’d like to check out 1942: Joint Strike for PSN and XBLA when it releases. In the meantime, enjoy these latest screens

Hey, wouldn't this be an awesome time to join the most manic, curtain-fire club that Capcom Unity has to offer? I'm talking about Hyper Solid Shooting of course, where we have an awesome thread for 1942: Joint Strike waiting for you! This endorsement is totally not biased at all!

Ashley plays Final Fight, hilarity ensues

    Tuesday, July 8, 2008, 06:40 PM [General]

All things considered, this isn't totally safe for work, but really, what from Destructoid isn't? My favorite gaming show that isn't so much about gaming or making sense, "Hey Ash, Whatcha Playing," updated this week with one of their strangest episodes yet, dedicated to the mayor of Metro City himself, Haggar. So says the Rev.-

We've always tried to make each episode of HAWP different from the last, in terms of both narrative and style of humor.

That should hopefully explain this most recent episode.

I'm not even going to bother putting up a Digg link.

    My sister is a pervert.

    Enjoy!

    Catch On Everywhere

    Tuesday, July 8, 2008, 02:27 PM [General]

Having waited for what seems like forever, I finally got my working space in order, the Zangief Munny has found a home and all is right in the world. Well, almost. I'm working on quite a number of things in the background, some of which you should be seeing within these pages very soon. Now if only I could stop getting distracted by games! The million Mega Man 9 posts per day I'm seeing on message boards all around has me playing through Mega Man 3 again, if not just to hear my favorite Wily theme of them all.

Other than that? There are some awesome Red Hot Chili Pepper tracks for Rock Band today, Bungie released Cold Storage for Halo 3 last night and this week, 2K is dropping Civilization Revolutions, as though my free time wasn't taxed as is. What's worse? My girlfriend has started up World of Warcraft again. Pray for Mojo.

    Monster Hunter Overdose

    Thursday, July 3, 2008, 01:17 PM [General]

Wired's Japanese corespondent, Jean Snow, has stumbled upon an actual Monster Hunter item shop in the famous electronic district of Akihabara. Is that so surprising? The most recent release, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is an absolute beast on the Japanese sales charts, registering over 2 million copies sold to date. The game is so huge that, as Kramer pointed out earlier this week, even the Wall Street Journal has taken notice.

Jean notes that one of the best places in Akihabara for collectable figurines and goods is a shop called Aso Bit City, pictured above. The overwhelming sensation you feel as you gaze upon the huge vanity of Monster Hunter statues is not you dying and drifting away to swag heaven, but it is perfectly normal. Even though the onslaught of merchandise has only begun in the past couple of months, Aso Bit City has dedicated the entire front of the store purely to Monster Hunter!

The latest in Monster Hunter collectibles are these smaller figures of the popular character Airou, dressed up in all sorts of different outfits. He's a knight! He's a chef! He's ... adorable.

Nothing says expendable income quite like a collectable card game and for the Hunter with cash to burn, yes, there is a Monster Hunter CCG. In the grand scheme of things, it makes perfect sense. The Monster Hunter community is one that revolves around regular, real world gatherings, so why not have an extra game to obsess over on the side?

If you're like me and you love seeing these types of photo blogs from Japan, toss Game|Life into your RSS reader here on Unity. Jean is the best at this stuff.
