Street Fighter IV on Inside Xbox

    Monday, June 30, 2008, 04:07 AM [General]

The next time you fire up your Xbox 360 for another rousing Ryu versus Ken marathon, do take a moment to check out the latest Inside Xbox update, located on the Xbox Live blade of the dashboard. Here you'll find an update from the ever-so-charming Dan Amrich and his Official Xbox Magazine on the fighting event of 2008, Street Fighter IV.

If you've been following the development of SF4 then you won't be hit with any life altering revelations, but the interview with Yoshinori Ono (translated by the best in the biz, Mr. David Crislip) does go into how the brawler is hoping to change the way people look at "casual games," as well as the four new characters that we've all come to know and love.

And admit it, you love you some Rufus. Jelly roll physics are next-gen, after all.

    Inti Creates: Magical 8-Bit Tour

    Friday, June 27, 2008, 03:50 PM [General]

As though it were the plan all along, Mega Man 9 developer then Mega Man ZX Advent developer Inti Creates snuck a hidden gem into their last DS title starring the Blue Bomber. A love letter of sorts to a time long ago. Much like the announcement of Street Fighter IV, Mega Man 9's retro unveiling has brought a lot of older fans back to the table and these fans have questions.

"Who the heck is Inti Creates" is one of them. The follow up typically being, "And why should I trust them with my Mega Man?" Should the video above not convince you of their worthiness, let's step back a few years for a brief history lesson.

Inti Creates was formed in May of 1996, comprised mostly of ex-Capcom staff. After a few games of their own they teamed up with the ol' mothership for the Mega Man Zero series for the Game Boy Advance, which you may recall was totally awesome and had some seriously rocking soundtracks. Inti Creates churned out three Mega Man Zero titles while working on several other projects at the same time (including the second Eureka Seven game) before taking on the Nintendo DS with Mega Man ZX. The series was notable not only for its open world presentation, but it's selectable female protagonist as well.

Knowing that Inti Creates has been responsible for some of the best Mega Man titles in recent history should hopefully put some minds at ease. Now you may return to the most pressing issue: whether or not it's a Wii Ware exclusive so that everyone can truly get hyped.

    Community Treasures: XL T-Shirt Edition

    Thursday, June 26, 2008, 02:53 PM [General]

With the launch of the new Unity site has come a flood of great content, not all of which gets its time to shine on the front page. Whether it's an insightful post on the forums or a fantastic snapshot, I hope that the Community Treasures posts can turn you on to some great reads.

    - For those not closely following the development of the new Bionic Commando title, BTHR Zero X has pulled together every page thus far of the ongoing Bionic Commando comic book! So catch up now and then over to the official site every Wednesday for new pages.

    - Adamazing is all over Unity and seems to have as many Capcom shirts as he does user points. Head on over to his blog for a promo tee fashion show and check out his awesome Dead Rising swag!

    - Have you visited the Capcom Cosplay group? RedVirtue's new group skyrocketed up the charts as soon as it was opened and why not? Everyone loves cosplay! Do check out the gallery and stay for the discussion over at the forums.

    - Toot toot. That's the sound of my horn. I got all nostalgic over Capcom's Ducktales for the NES with the opening of the new Magical World of Capcom group, celebrating their string of Disney hits.

    - Even if you haven't been paying attention to the Street Fighter HD Remix Beta (shame on you), you've probably seen this video by CigarBob. Well, the brokeness of Ken won't be making it into the final, as confirmed by multiple sources. Still, it's worth a look if not to hear Bob freak out.

    - Finally, while not Unity related, I can't resist sharing this YTMND with you. I just love Guile theme.

    Commando 3 Achievement Clean Up

    Tuesday, June 24, 2008, 06:00 PM [General]

There are less than 24 hours separating you from the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix public beta. For some folks, that's about as much time as Commando 3 has left as a game before it makes like Cinderella's pumpkin and becomes merely the vehicle that whisks them away to a world of 1080p hadoukens. It seems to be like this would be a good time to clean up those remaining achievements before that happens.

While the first hour of Commando 3 hands out achievements like a rabid side show promoter, the final five can be tricky. Having just completed these myself this weekend, allow me to try and help you gain the joy of 200/200 as well.

Combined Assault, 40G - Complete the game with at least one other player.
This one sounds easy enough and it is ... if you play through it on easy! Not only is there no difficulty requirement, but you only need to play though it with one other player as well. If you're looking to get this one quick, flip the difficulty to easy, grab a friend and use Wolf and Coyote for the easy achievement.

If you're going to play with all three players, however, I have some further advice. Determine out of the three of you which one is the best player and stick that person on Fox. Her defense is extremely bad and can be wiped out in only two hits, stealing away a precious life (which are shared, by the way) from the team.

The trick to getting through Commando 3 with all three players is to stick Fox in the back to take care of the enemies rushing from behind, while having her use Wolf and Coyote as meat shields. Meaning, while your team is running through the levels, make sure that Fox has the back covered while lining herself up with one of the other two players. Bullets don't pass through one another, so use the higher vitality of other players to your advantage.

Wolf and Coyote also have enough vitality to make it through the game as is, so let Fox pick up all the health extending power-ups as well. That way when she does get shot, there won't be as much of a panic to find first-aid kits. Speaking of power-ups, do your best to ignore both the flame thrower and rocket launcher weapons. The flame thrower masks enemy projectiles extremely well and the rocket launcher has too low of a firing rate to make it useful. With these tips in mind, the game should be a breeze.

Beautiful? Yes. Deadly? Of course. Healthy? Not so much.

Madman, 30G - Attain a 24x score multiplier on every level.
Another easy one. Not only can you take advantage of the infinitely respawning enemy huts, but there are also secret items that automatically give you the multiplier needed. If you need the multiplier fast, simply camp out in front of an enemy respawn and fire away until you achieve it. It's also extremely easy to pick up in just about any vehicle section.

Should you get to the boss or nearly complete the level without acquiring the multiplier, simply go to the menu and restart the mission. This won't count against your achievement.

Mercenary, 15G - Complete the game on Suicide Mission difficulty.
This sounds tough, but if you play it safe you'll be fine. Pick Wolf for this mission as he has the best mix of vitality, speed and grenades. Be sure to pick up every POW symbol you see to increase your power and stick with the default weapon as the key to success will be shooting things before they can even get close to you.

Approach every tower and gunner pod from a distance and destroy them before you get in their firing range. Try and toss grenades at vehicles as soon as you can to prevent them from spawning too many enemies. Speaking of spawns, utilize the spawning huts as cover, destroying them from the sides while hiding from bullets and other enemies.

Try to ignore most of the secret areas on your Suicide run as it'll only distract and give the enemies more opportunities to finish you off. You only get two lives on this mode, so try your hardest to get to the final boss of the game without dying as he'll most likely steal one away from you on his own. One final piece of advice: don't be afraid to use your special Crash attack! If you think you're about to get hit by an enemy or just need some room, get it out there! It'll save your life!

Humanitarian, 10G - Rescue all the POWs in the game.
Sleuth, 20G - Find all the secret areas in the game.
These two are one in the same. You'll run into most of the POWs without even looking for them, but some are hidden in secret areas (two per level) that need to be opened with grenades. Follow these directions and make sure to get all the POWs along the way to acquire both achievements.

    Level 1
    - After reaching the vehicle, hug the left side of the path and look for tank tracks leading into the rocks. Hop out of your vehicle and throw a grenade here.

    - Upon reaching the end of the vehicle section, look to the left of the barrier again for tank tracks leading into the rocks.

    Level 2
    - At the very beginning of the level there will be two sets of POWs crying for help. Between these two groups is a blue flame on the wall. Throw a grenade here.
    - After exiting the prison and finding the open area, head north where a green tank will appear. To the left of the tank there should be tire tracks leading into the rocks.

    Level 3
    - At the very beginning of the temple section a tank will appear. To the left of where the tank stops will be a statue. Toss a grenade at the statue.
    - In the temple area, after the section with the low wall where soldiers throw grenades to you, head around the wall and north, around the bend. On the right hand wall there will be a blue, circular ornament on the wall. Use a grenade on it.

    Level 4
    - After the village section with the wooden planks, you'll head back into the swamp and find a useable turret. On the right hand wall you'll see what appears to be a fallen tree, directly above an enemy spawning hut. Use a grenade on the tree.
    - At the end of the swamp, before you head up the ramp and into the factory setting, throw a grenade at the last bit of fence on the left hand side.

    Level 5
    - At the very beginning of the level, on the left hand side, you'll find a brown colored building with tiny blue and red flags. Throw a grenade at it but beware, there is an enemy spawn within this secret.
    - During the first tank section, you'll find another brown building with tiny flags on it. Hop out of your tank (uhg) and toss a grenade at it to open the final secret.

And there you have it. Hopefully this will help you acquire those last achievements so that you can look like a gaming superstar before the Street Fighter beta consumes your Xbox 360. Should you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them, as I'm sure some others would be as well. Enjoy!

    New SF2HD Remix art: Balrog

    Thursday, June 19, 2008, 09:13 PM [General]

Here's something that seems to have slipped under the radar. Udon added this menacing gem to their DeviantArt gallery last night and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Alvin Lee's take on Balrog's classic portrait is true to the original as well as being, in my opinion, a huge improvement. His Super Turbo mugshot was great, but quite goofy in retrospect.

    "I GOT PAID!"

So, what do you guys think? Also, for those who are going to say, "I think Capcom should just tell us the release date already," Udon had this to say in the image description.

"We'll have more artwork (and hopefully a release date) for you soon."

Oh, those lovable, teasing scamps. Enjoy!
