With all the talk of upcoming fighting game tournaments, it's only natural to think of the modern day heavyweights. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Capcom vs SNK 2 ... these games are great, but they're not the only Capcom fighters still being played competitively around the world to this day.
In South Korea there exists a community still fiercely dedicated to Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, even with the notoriously over powered M.Bison (Dictator) lurking amongst the cast. They hold regular tournaments and are currently preparing for their sixth bash, scheduled for June 23rd. Having played so much Super Street Fighter II Turbo over the years, it's quite jarring to witness serious, ultra competitive Champion Edition footage as all of the characters functioned so differently back in 1992. It's quite the trip.
Over in Japan, something I long since suspected has become much more prevalent as of late and that's hardcore Vampire Savior play. The famous A-Cho arcade recently held a tournament for the Darkstalkers sequel and several others have popped up as well. I was also a fan of the game but never really had a chance to learn it proper thanks to a lack of competition. After watching the finals from last months Mikado tournament, I sure wish I had.
Now all I have to do is hunt down some sort of secret club dedicated to playing Tech Romancer and I'll be set!
Does the thought of grazing bullets in Mars Matrix make you all giddy inside? Do you spend your days watching videos of Giga Wing 2 and think to yourself, "How do they do that?" Regardless of your history, if you're a fan of Capcom's incredible line of shooters, than the Hyper Solid Shooting Group is the place for you.
And it is quite an impressive history. From the 194X series of World War II themed shooters to the multi-directional madness of games like Forgotten Worlds and Section Z, Capcom's presence in the shoot em' up game has been felt throughout the history of modern videogames. It's also one that continues to this day with games like Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 and the upcoming 1942: Joint Strike. Feel free to stop on by and tell us about your favorite shooters on the forums. Thanks!
I've been waiting until I had something totally Capcom related to share with you all and to be honest, I was waiting on exactly this! Along with being an awesome gamer, my girlfriend is also artistically inclined to say the least. So when she wanted to customize a Kid Robot Munny for me, I only had one request: Zangief!
The Red Cyclone is one of my favorite characters in all of videogames and I had a feeling that the goofy proportions would make for one seriously whacked out Munny. After sculpting out some of his trademark features only one thing was missing: fur for his hair! Zangief is a seriously hairy dude! Since it's out of season, we actually had to go to Target, pick out a nice teddy bear and, err, borrow some of his hide. Seeing as how he got so tough by training against polar bears in the Siberian snow, I'm glad to see this has all come full circle.
