Well, to me, this game was very unique. It's not the bust em up shoot em up kinda game and tends to deter people who are more into the fighting than the storyline. It was a little hard for me to adjust to Okami, just because it was so different from really anything I've ever played. For one thing, you're usually not an animal in a console game. Two, I was never really that great with drawing with a joystick. But once I got past the strange dialogue and the contracting heads instead of mouths, I started to get sucked in.
Okami is beautiful, or wierd I guess, depending on how you look at it. But if you don't like the fact that this game really is all about 'story' then you might not like it that much. And, well, as you go along and get stronger and get more brush techniques, fighting will become a lot more fun and engaging. Like really fun. Especially during boss battles. Who thought drawing could be so satisfying?
Okami was great to me because it never seemed to end. You'll find out later what I mean. I think I heard an episode of X-Play say that there are more than 1500 pages of text in this game. It incorprets mythology and the zodiac and at the same time holds a tale all it's own. Plus, you're a wolf. How kick ass is that? And there's so much to do and you have to think before you can just rush off and kill the big evil dude. I loved running through the villages, hunting through the massuive world (and it really is big when you're just a little wolf). I enjoyed being able to change my enviroment so much with just a brush stroke. But, if you're not into story and would rather just point and shoot, I don't really think Okami is the game for you. It's alright, and it's understandable, and it's totally okay if you're not. But please, try to stick with it for awhile longer. You might just be glad you did.

It's just such an engrossing world with a rich experience. It never struck me as a game everyone would understand or enjoy. But it's like Legend of Zelda with a different vibe and heavy asian fantasy atmosphere to it. I loved every second of Okami, but I can definitely see why not everyone jumped on board. It's such an abstract and artistic expression of a game that some people just won't get it. Sometimes you have to just sit back and appreciate something so innovative and unique because nobody else will. |

The combat, the paintbrush, the art style, and Issun are the 4 main reasons Okami is more than great, but there is more that makes the game so much cooler. |
