This sort of thing has been bugging me for awhile. First off, this is not an article about MegaMan having too many sequels (I love them all and wish for more), and it's not about Capcom merchandise either. What I'm talking about here is sometime I keep running into that does not seem quite right.
Tons of clothing sites, and band sites like "The Megas":
are selling albums, shirts, and whatever else as they please. Now, I remember way back when a Capcom representative stating it was ok to use stuff like sprite rips, and create all sorts of fan generated art and music. Capcom-Unity is a big example of a company letting its fans run wild and create some geniunely cool stuff, and I thank them for it. I like drawing fan art myself, of course.
The problem here is that they're selling this fan made content for a profit. I'm not saying it is not quality work, and maybe it's worth that much, but taking a copyrighted character or copyrighted music and selling it without permission from the holder of those copyrights is wrong. I'm sure some people have been given permission, and maybe these guys have too, but there's so many clothing sites out here selling stuff with MegaMan on it that its probably more of an issue of too many little businesses for Capcom to deal with. The sale are probably small, and it might cost more going after them than shutting them down.
I guess I'm also kind of shooting myself in the foot typing this because, if bands like The Megas could not sell their albums, they would probably just move off of MegaMan music, and why would I want that? I should be happy they're making remixes of my favorite songs. And maybe Capcom really does not want to treat any big fans the same way Square Enix shuts down fangame projects, or Nintendo shuts down projects (with the odd exception of Mother 3).
It's a very odd situation, and I guess I'm looking for other opinions on what they think about the whole thing. So please leave your thoughts, and have a great day.

I feel the same way. If it were me & my band, I'd do whatever possible to Get Capcom's blessing, if they didn't want to accept royalties, I'd at least have the Capcom copyright on my merch as well. I feel like it's the least I could do after such inspiration that they've provided.
