Plant Man

I am still so amazed Mega Man 9 got released. I'm searching my brain trying to think of something else that has made as miraculous as a comeback as Mega Man 9 did for its series, and I just can not think of anything. I know a lot of Sonic fans who would love to have the same treatment, with a Sonic 4 coming out. There's so many game series that tip toe around creating true sequels; not wanting to disappoint fans of the originals, or wanting to just totally branch out. Mega Man's no different, except when Mega Man branches out he really branches out, creating whole new genres with their own fanbases and whatnot. Mega Man and Bass was getting called 'Mega Man 9' for the longest of time by people who wanted the masses clamoring for Mega Man 9 to shut up. That long span of years after its release had me believing Mega Man 9 was never going to show up; I had figured the classic series only had room for remakes, collections, and spin offs. So Capcom drops the bomb, and I'm more pumped than ever before. Here was something I had wanted since finishing playing Mega Man Anniversary Collection, and that I thought would never come to be. Nintendo Power's exclusive interview raised my hopes even higher, showing 8-bit graphics, and a return not only to the stylistic roots of Mega Man, but even the company which Mega Man had first grown from. I was both enthralled and skeptical. It really is a big deal to make something a direct-number sequel, having to live up to its predecessors. People have parodied and replicated the old NES style in other games before, but I was wondering if Capcom could really create a brand new NES game in 2008. Well, they did it and did it well. They already had me at Mega Man 9, but even some of my greatest hopes and expectations were surpassed. Classic art done for the bosses and characters looked just as they did in the NES days, and yet were so high quality and new. The only way I can explain how special that was for me to see was like if your favorite band, having not played for years, regrouped and were spiritually rocking out once more live for you to experience yourself. Mega Man 9 was distributed digitally, so there was no absolute need for this beyond new character designs, but they did it because Capcom was truly reviving the spirit of the NES Mega Man games. This post had nothing to do with Plant Man, I just titled it that and posted his picture because I could not think of anything else. However, I just wanted to thank Capcom again for making this happen, and I'm glad Mega Man 9 was able to receive such positive response from all those who played it. My one wish is for more people to care about Mega Man and all the work that has been put into the series, and give him the same recognition as stars like Mario and Sonic. Tags:

Robot Review #6: BombMan

"Oh no! Now you've got my weapon!" Bombman is the best robot master. He is also the only one with a mohawk. Unless you count Punk, but his is different looking altogether anyways. Bombman is one of the easier robot masters to take on because besides crashing into you, only his bomb explosions hurt you. And unlike some later bosses who have stuff flying all over the place, its just one bomb at a time. However, the reward for beating him is less too, because the bomb can be awkward to use, but at least its unique. Speaking of unique, in the cartoon Bombman for some reason has a duckbill. I don't have any idea why they would do that. Just to be different? He also has a froggy voice, which sounds like how MegaMan sounded in the Captain N show. What a throwback! While Bombman is the best robot master, Capcom just refuses to use him as much as the other 5 originals. Its really difficult to think of what other games he has shown up in. Sorry Bombman, you're still a blast. That's all for the original 6 robot masters, but there's still 2 more to go before reaching MegaMan 2 territory. Who are these mysterious contenders, and why am I bothering to review them? Find out next time! Tags:
