After a few weeks of cleaning, adding in some custom wiring, and deciding on a Egret II color themed Control Panel here are the fruits on my labor.
CPSIII SFIII Giant Attack Kit Enroute
Got a CPS III system coming my way with SFIII Giant Attack. The Security cart has never had its battery replaced but it still working.
For those that aren't familar with CPS III. Alot of people usually stay away from these. There is a lithium battery inside each game cart that holds the encryption coding to the custom processor. If that battery dies, the encryption is lost and can not be recovered at all. This means you are left with a dead game and at this time can't even be revived.
Capcom Coin-Op is no longer. The company that bought them doesnt have the machine anymore to redo the carts. Apparently some guy, former Capcom Coin-Op or Betson has this machine and will not recover carts. However you can apparently buy the machine off him for $1M US....
This motherboard also has enough Simms (memory) to run 3rd Strike as well. I might attempt to replace the battery in the security cart, however to do this you need to have voltage applied while desoldering the old battery and replacing it. If voltage is removed in anyway or period of time. Congrats! you have a suicided cart.
Gotta love Capcom encryption... This was used so no one could make bootlegs of the CPS III games back in the day, however also is a ticking time bomb to kill CPS III down the road. One of my friends has 15 dead 3rd Strike Carts just sitting there in a pile. Just sucks for us Arcade Preservationists that are trying to keep original hardware games alive and running.

Stay Tuned... New Arcade Projects/Room
Very soon I will be posting more blogs on some new Arcade Projects. The big one for all you SF fans is gonna be a Full Restoration of a Street Fighter II Championship Edition Cab we rescued from some kid's crappy damp garage. This project is for my dedicated SF nut of a friend.
Second, the Restoration of an Original Mortal Kombat which is the perfect cab for a Multi-Purpose JAMMA Machine. The cab will be fully restored and left intact. However it will be a unique setup.
- Easy changeout Arcade PCBs
- CPSII Easy Changeout
- SNK Neo-Geo MVS Easy changeout
- PC Interface (Non-MAME) for SFIV and other PC Games built-in
- Custom Control Panels for Capcom and SNK games (Instead of a crappy CP full of buttons) with quick change.
I'm converting my small home office into an Arcade Room to put my MK cabs in.
Stay tuned over the next few months for pics of this process and also sharing out info and tips.
