Hello again everyone. This week I'm particularly excited to talk about one of my favorite features of FLOCK!, the built-in level editor. The level editor is the same tool we used to create all the levels, and we've included it in the game so you can make your own awesome levels. This video shows off the editor functionality:
As you can see, the editor is quite robust. You can pick each piece and place it in your level exactly where you want it. In the video, each piece is placed precisely by hand, but there's also an option for the editor to automatically place logical surrounding pieces nearby as you plop down the main elements (great for speed mapping!). You've got a full range of parameters to choose from - which season & time your map takes place in, how many/what kind of animals to rescue, what beams are available, whether the beastie will show up, how fast the player has to beat the level to get rewards, co-op style, etc...
There's gameplay to the editor as well - as you play through the single player campaign, you'll unlock new objects to use in your editor creations. So play through more of the game to get more cool stuff to play with in the editor.
Now, after you've built your Mona Lisa out of sheep, it's time to share it with the world. Using our map sharing interface, you can upload your map to our central map sharing server where the entire world can see and rate your map. I'll select a couple maps each week to be our favorite Capcom Spotlight maps, featured in their own section of the interface - I'll be watching our Unity forum for suggestions.
Also, since wallpaper seemed to be a hit last week, the crew over at Proper crafted a bunch of them for your desktop. Download them over here - and I'll have another set next week too.
Hi all! We've got a new FLOCK! video online for you to check out. This one features some of the crazy content featured in the game:
Among some of the cool stuff shown in this trailer are crop circles. Honestly, what UFO Animal Herding Simulator would be complete without them? By flattening the crop with your depressor beam, you can clear a path to herd animals through so they don't get lost in the tall crops. If you make cool patterns as shown by the lightstones, then you can get a time bonus too! So if you've ever wondered why aliens make crop circles, it's actually so they can abduct animals faster! ;)
Also, over in the forums I had a request from Mehvish for a FLOCK! wallpaper, so I uploaded a simple one up here - now your desktop can be made of the same plush material that the world is. Check it out, and hopefully we'll have some more soon.
I'm excited to reveal a brand new FLOCK! video for you; in this one, we reveal the different seasons available. Over the course of the game, you'll see a variety of environments for your flocking pleasure: summer, autumn, and winter.
The game begins in summer, where you'll learn the basics of FLOCK. Eventually the season changes to autumn and then to winter. But the season isn't the only thing to change - you'll also play levels at different times of the day, and even at night. From the video, you can see that night time poses its own challenges. You'll need to find lightstones to illuminate the way and keep the beastie from eating your flock.
Beware the night!
The video also showcases some techniques you'll need to use to get around the world. Need to get your flock through a fence? Demolish it with a boulder! Those boulders are also useful for propping open gates, too. In a pinch, they can even be used to flatten crops so your flock can get through them. But be careful throwing those rocks around, because they can flatten your flock too.
Strike!
So, keep an eye out here for more FLOCK! news... we'll be releasing more screenshots, videos and strategies each week, leading up to our launch the second week of April. Don't forget to head on over to our Unity page as well.
Hey guys; you now have a good reason to look forward to the second week of April... because FLOCK! is coming out then. That's right, in just five short weeks you'll be able to get your fill of sheep herding, pig bouncing, cow launching, and chicken flying goodness. In addition, FLOCK! has been chosen to be part of Microsoft's prestigious Days of Arcade program. Last year, Bionic Commando: Rearmed was one of the blockbuster games highlighted in the Summer of Arcade promotion, garnering record sales and rave reviews. So you can see why we're very excited and privileged to have another game, FLOCK!, featured in this year's exclusive XBLA promotion.
These sheep will land in about... five weeks. Ehh... low gravity. ;)
The release dates are as follows:
» PC - April 7 » Xbox Live - April 8 » PlayStation Network - TBD
So, look forward to the second week of April. For more information on the game, head on over to our website and forum. Keep tuned to capcom-unity.com, as we'll be posting more exciting FLOCK! news soon!
Hi all! As the Associate Producer on FLOCK!, I wanted to give everyone a heads up on tomorrow's Qore demo of Flock!
As you may have read, the next episode of Qore launches tomorrow! Even better, this episode will be available for free! It includes a video covering FLOCK!, full of details on the game. It's a great introduction to what the game is all about, so please give it a watch! :)
Best of all, you'll be able to check FLOCK! out for yourself firsthand if you're a Qore Annual Subscriber! The episode includes a special Qore Winter Demo, the first publicly playable version of the game available anywhere. This demo includes six levels, letting you play three of the four animals in the full game - the Sheep, the Cow, and the Pig. Also included are two of the seasons - Autumn and (of course) Winter. I think you'll find the six levels to be a great taste of the gameplay FLOCK! has to offer in its 50 single player levels (not including co-op levels!).
We're also including the game's map editor! This is the same tool as we're using to make levels for FLOCK!, so we're looking forward to seeing how you use it. As you progress through the demo, you'll unlock new items to play with in the editor. In the full game, you'll even be able to save your levels and upload them to share with your friends.
Stay tuned to Capcom-Unity for more information on FLOCK! as we'll be releasing more exciting news in the weeks to come! Don't forget to visit the FLOCK! website, and stop by our forums!
