Well-known New York Street Fighter player and commentator Chris Hu's family has been struck by disaster, and lost their home and savings in a devastating fire.
It's an unbelievable loss, but I've been encouraged to see an amazing outpouring of support from the SF community already. I've seen the communtiy reach out before when they've lost one of their own, but this support for someone struck by a personal catastrophe has been pretty amazing. Shoryuken.com kicked off the response by donating $1000, with other prizes from Mad Catz, and I'll be putting together a package from my personal collection to support the recovery as well.
This is just one person in a world full of tragedies, but this is what belonging to a community is all about--supporting one another when the chips are down, so hats off to the amazing response from the Street Fighters. You can see Chris being interviewed here on an ABC news story about the fire (@2:13), and click here to see what else the community is up to, and how you can get involved.
